Title: DHP-209AV for 4K
Post by: khpura on March 27, 2015, 06:03:43 AM
I found this DHP-209AV for $19, is this a good price. I am considering using Powerline AV unit to stream HD content to my Network TV, would this be able to run 4K stream without any problem?

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

4K is a 15-18Gb bandwidth format. I'm not sure of CAT6A which is only 10Gb, will handle it and I just installed CAT6a in my new addition for wired networking. Any streaming currently I recomend using wired LAN cable connections and to avoid using PLs unless your media data content is low. Raw BD files stream well over wired Gb LAN thats currently 1000Mb. 4K? Ya, i wouldn't do anything less that directly LAN cable connections and using switches. Not sure if 1000Mb will be able to handle 4K. I presume it may depending on content bandwidth and whats all embedded in the files.

I'll ask a rep I know whos getting into 4K about what cabling will be needed.

i talked to an audio/visual media rep I deal with and he said that if the 4K content is compressed, it maybe possible to stream it over lower band width connections. However if you have raw 4K, theres no way. CAT6 would be recommended to stream RAW or CAT6A which is 10Gb supporting. I presume it all depends on how the 4K data is compressed and streamed.

IMO 4K is a long ways out and the standard for it has not been finalized. I give maybe 5 years before we see some real use at a home user level...maybe. I just installed a 4K compliant projector screen so maybe if 4K come about and it's affordable, maybe i'll get into it. Everything would need to be changed out to support 4K. Oy vay.  :-\
