Title: Facebook Check In Only Required in Browser?
Post by: WylieJon on July 23, 2014, 11:56:08 AM
I have configured my router to use the Facebook check in. This works great on my phone if I open my browser. I am redirected to Facebook and must check in.

However, if I simply open an app such as FB or Twitter, I am able to pull data without being forced to open my browser and perform a check in. I have turned off cellular data to ensure that it is not falling back to 4G.

Is this a limitation? I would assume 90% will just connect and use apps and never be forced to perform a check in. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Or, am I missing something in the configuration?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It's possible that FB apps don't required a manual check in since those apps already have the users account info configured with in the app...

HW Version: A1
FW Version: 1.04
Located in NA (US)

The idea is to have them "check in" to access the router, not just to be logged into FB. We are looking for the advertising.

And the data access is not just limited to the FB app, it applies to any app, Twitter, Yahoo News, etc.

Thanks.

I believe this feature is only limited to FB support and nothing else.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I called in and received the disappointing news that the Facebook check in is only required when surfing in a browser.

What a waste! Very few people actually use their browser for most activity on mobile devices. This device allows for full access to Wi-Fi data via apps without ever connecting to Facebook and checking in.

Great idea...terrible execution...

I presume that mobile devices don't need this kind of access to FB services as they would be connecting thru there cell phone services or thru the guest zone when when connected there, which doesn't need any specialized access. I presume there is no need for specialized authentication with FB apps or any other apps as they are handled differently than Browser based access, so the execution would be correct here.
