Title: Storage server bugs?

I have the storage server of the 857 enabled with a USB 3.0 drive in it. Firmware is 1.01.
User admin and another user test is enabled for read/write (guest can't be removed, it has the access path set to "none").
I have some observations:

How big is the drive?  How is it formatted?  I know they have some kinks to work out, but I am glad that at least someone can even see the drive they attached.

I believe any drive needs to be NTFS formatted and clean before starting to load it and connect it. Theres some info in the FAQ Library about NTFS Formatting. I think size is a factor as well.

It was delivered formatted as a FAT32. I removed the drive and formatted it to NTFS on a Windows 7 PC.
The same observations as in post 1. The download speed decreased to 18 MB/s and upload to 8 MB/s using the same test PC and test file (a 2 GIG ISO file)
The router says the drive has 119,25 GB storage, it's a 128 GB drive

Thanks to both of you, I am trying to acquire as much information before I call Support this afternoon.  Either on of you know the phone number for at least second-tier support?

I only know the first level however I would just ask the person when you get connected to CS if they can just transfer you to 2nd level. Ask to see what size drives are officially supported if you can get them to tell you. Would be nice to know what sizes are supported. Let us know.

I just bought this, but I do not feel comfortable with anybody on my network (wife, kids, kid's friends, etc.) having read/write access to my attached drive.

I recommend that you phone contact DLink support. Accessing the connected USB drive from the LAN side is possible and this is a back door feature for some routers. DLink may or may not have intently coded security on the USB as in most cases, USB specs do not call for much, if any, security.

For short term solutions, your best best, if you want to keep others from accessing the drive, you need to install the USB drive on your personal PC and share it out from there and set up permissions for those who you allow access and for those who do not.
