JavaLawyer,

If I ever get a replacement for my defective DNS-320 I would like to see them fix the DLNA server.

As I previously posted (topic=39052.0), the DNS-320 implementation doesn't stream Photos or Music to my Samsung UN46B8000XF Television. D-Link Tech Support wasn't any help and referred me to Samsung. When I installed TWONKY media server on the DNS-320 TWONKY streamed the same Photos & Music properly. Also, minidlna installed under UBUNTU, was able to stream those files to my TV. This pretty strongly suggests to me that the problem I am experiencing results from the the DNS-320 DLNA server implementation and should be fixed.

Several threads have alluded to problems sharing iTunes libraries. As common as these are, that is a non-working “advertised” feature that is probably impacting a lot of users.

Several threads have alluded to security vulnerabilities that, if present, should definitely be fixed.

>2TB hard drives are becoming increasingly common and should be supported -especially by a NAS.

The DNS-320 should provide a means to backup important files directly to an attached USB drive without having to back them up through a computer over the network.

D-Link should provide a utility (like Ext2Read that “t121anf” posted) to recover files from their RAID-1 data partitions since those partitions appear to be unreadable, even from Linux.

I would like to see better software control of the fan. It is way to loud and seems to come on and then not blow hot enough air to worry about, at least in my air conditioned office.

Be able to use ftp and p2p at the same time. Without the p2p folder being available for all to see that access the ftp.

I have yet to use the ftp feature because of this problem.

Hide p2p feature when standard users login to web interface, that should obviously not be visible.

Lock access to p2p folder when mapping the network drive to other users on network.

Pretty much the p2p folder is available for all to access and delete files.

You can access it from port 80, port 21, and the port for mapping drives.

This isnt a secure nas file system
Good product, but for some reason dlink has a history of the worlds worst firmware.

Just wanted to add my wishlist, it was posted in the "beta code!" section for the DNS-320 but I'll just post the link here.

I have a fairly simple wish, since the 320 has been out for most of this year, perhaps they could consider getting the advertized features to work correctly and securely.  I would also like to see firmware updates more frequently to address the unacknowledged bugs and glitches.  Maybe by next year.  I mean 2012 just to clarify.

The built in p2p torrent client needs major improvements, more options,
especially selectable download directory (not volume only), more details in the torrent list (tracker name, seed/leech number,...).
Maybe a dedicated torrent list page to control the downloads without those space hog frames or a client application.

I would suggest adding time dependent bandwith control for P2P.
Instead of having only P2P Enable/Disable options, I would like to have possibility of defining two different bandwiths.  Every week hour would be caracterized by 0 (for disable), 1 (for bandwith limits #1), 2 (for bandwith limits #2).

Fix UPNP so it reports the files in alphabetical order.
I really sux that all files from the media server are presented in random order. Try navigating loads of files when not sorted alphabetically...

Please share the ID3 tag track number for audio files over UPnP.  Currently only the ID3 tag track name is being shared and this is resulting in albums listing their tracks in alphabetical order instead of correct album order.  Sharing ALL the ID3 tag info would be a plus.

A similar problem existed on the DNS-323 and I'm not sure if it ever got fixed.  The problem is well explained in this thread: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=7900.msg53909#msg53909

Hmmm, ok after spending some time faffing about this afternoon trying to migrate my drives to a larger variant - one of the definite things at the top of my wish list is the ability to copy the contents of the NAS to a USB drive directly!

I'm having to use Windows at the moment as a 'bridge' to do the transfer, and it's so much slower doing it this way.

I understand looking here (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=39036.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=39036.0)) that this can be achieved with fun_plug and some command lines, but it would be nice to have such a feature built into the NAS.

Allow a USB-disk to be the target destination for the built in "local backup" application.
This is the only improvement I really need.

Are you specifically referring to the on-board USB port or any external storage on the same network as the DNS-320?

I would also like to see the option to back up the NAS to a local / attached usb, along with 3TB usb drive support.  If the backup option could be made simpler to use and to have a synchronize option with another NAS or USB drive it would be great too.

DropBox integration would be very useful. If not Dropbox then ZumoDrive or Spideroak. I know we now have Amazon backup but that you have to pay for.

The ability to mount 2 USB drives at once  via a Hub plus as (mention before) being able to manage the USB drives from the web interface especially copying file from the DNS 320 to USB attached drives.

A built in web server with PHP to avoid the hassle of installing a web-server via funplug

I wonder when this product with reach EOL (End of Life), and if DLink can reach the wishlist before then, or at least cover the most important parts of the list.

EOL is usually 1 year after a product launch, I'm guessing our wishlist will just be that.... a wish.

There's no reason to think the DNS-320 is anywhere near EOL. The product was just released earlier this year. Other DNS products, like the DNS-323 and DNS-343 were released in 2008 and had firmware updates as recent as June of this year.

I have some additional suggestions...

- Enable Wake-on-Lan functionality (should it be possible on the current nic hardware!). Useful for waking the NAS up remotely from a router.
- Fix raid1 "upgrade" when adding a new drive ( http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38321.0 ); appears to be a bug from inspecting the drive format from ffp.
- Enable some sort of gui for "fixing permissions". This is a pet peeve of mine when accessing the nas from linux with NFS, or when I get wrong the umasks in ffp...

great initiative! i hope dlink reads it too...

General - webinterface support for android 3.2
General - a full working Ajaxplorer, with possibilitie to access all shares on DNS320, and to other drives in the network
General - a full working Web file server with possibilitie to access all shares on DNS320 (like it is now), and to any other drives in the network.
P2P - Set the drop down menue where you can choose to display the number of items standard  to 50
cheerz,

There seems to be a bug with the latest beta firmware, although I don't know if it was present or not in previous versions : Power Recovery doesn't work. Eventhough the option has been unable, the device doesn't restart after a power failure.

The usb is not currently visible under the web file application... so file management, for usb, can be done just in the computer that has the drives mapped, by the wifi (in my case at a very low speed).
The ajaxplorer is the old version released last year, anyhow by default you can see just the ajaxplorer folder in the volumes and I was unable to go upper that level, so I had to create symlinks in terminal to point to the root of the drives, same for the usb...
Hope this brings more light here...

Thanks!

This concept is addressed in part with the wishlist item to "designate USB HDD as the target destination for the integrated local backup functionality". A USB backup/restore option would allow files to easily push/pull from the USB location to/from the NAS and would eliminate routing USB files to your PC and back to the NAS during a Windows copy function.

P2P: Possibility to upload an IP Block List into the torrent client (like Peerblock for Windows)

THE BLOCKLIST MANAGER (http://blocklistpro.com/the-blocklist-manager-2.7.7.html[url=http://THE BLOCKLIST MANAGER) can prepare a list of IPs and export that in .txt, .csv, .xlm, etc etc!(BLOCKLIST CONVERTER (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/converter[url=http://BLOCKLIST CONVERTER))

It's the board's list...I'm just trying to keep things focused and manageable.
BTW, why remove the drop down menu?
because its an extra action for me to display the 11th item (or the 23th or the 43th). When the list can contain 50 items max just let it contain the 50 items.

Improvement of the print server to support multi function printer (scanner function).
Or even better if the USB-port become a USB over ethernet port.

That's why it's called a "wishlist".  ;D
Practically speaking, I'm sure that only a fraction of these items will be addressed.

do we have an ETA on the next beta?

D-Link does not publicly disclose the release schedule for beta firmware.

Make Local backups case insensitive to file/folder names.
I know Ext 3 is case sensitive but in most cases this feature is rather annoying than useful.

Yes, the list is long, but I see the goal of this effort as several-fold. In an ideal world, we would like to see these items implemented in the next firmware release. Practically speaking, I think we will see some fraction of this list in the next firmware release, with more items integrated in future releases. Equally as important, I see this list as a guide for improving future DNS models.

I would the built in back up software to be a little more robust. When backing up from a source , it will only copy what is new or modified - which is good. But also an option to automatically remove files from the destination if they no longer appear in the source location.

ie. if you use your NAS like me for back up purposes from a media only hard drive , I sometimes clean up the source drive and move stuff around. The NAS box copies the new data that I've moved but doesn't delete the old data. - Does that make sense.

Great idea. This is one shortcoming that I have with my DNS-343s. I have to run a third-party backup solution from a PC once a week to delete the files in the destination HDDs that are no longer in the source HDDs.  ;D

Hi,

I have some ideas:

- ext4 File System, When install a new HDD could select the formatting option, EXT4 (for 2 news HDD or full reinstall) or EXT3 (1 new HDD added to the actual operative NAS).

- Scheduled power-ON

- HTTPS Connection

- Network Backup

- Automatic Power on after power fail

THK YOU.
PD. Excuse my bad English.

Your changes are added except for the "automatic power on after power fail". How would this work through a firmware upgrade? If there were a power failure, the DNS-320 would need a battery backup to initiate the reboot. This seems to require hardware re-engineering was well.

Thats one impressive list you have there!

There's one item I'd like to ask about, I'm currently writing a Java ME UPnP client - keeps me busy - I can browse the DNS 320 fine the only problem is as you have on your list mp3 tracks come back in a random order.  Not only do they come back in a random order but when I ask the box how it can sort the files it doesn't give me any options.

I'm just wondering how you would modify the UPnP server to allow the tracks to be ordered properly - I don't really understand the comment about sharing the track number instead of the name... would this result in me seeing simply 1, 2, 3 instead of track a, track b and track c as that doesn't really seem like a reasonable solution - it would help if I want to play an album but not if I'm looking for a specific track and personally I'd rather keep the track names - or is it simply something internal to the server so that it produces the same output but ordered by the track number?

That would improve the problem until you browse by artist when you are given all track names for all tracks by that user when you would then be faced with track 1 of album a followed by track 1 of album b.  Ideally the server would support various sort capabilities in the requests sent to it, users can then choose how to sort based on how they want to access the files.

Thanks a lot and I'll look forward to any UPnP related updates.

If any items in the wishlist were fixed by the latest firmware, please post and I'll update!

Note: This firmware wishlist was developed before DNS-320 firmware version 2.02b01 was removed from circulation. As such, functionality labeled as "FIXED" is presently not available in the currently available firmware. We will continue to compile this wishlist under the pretense that a re-release (or newer version) of firmware v2.02b01 is forthcoming in the near future.

On the P2P downloads settings page, references to download and upload speed in the bandwidth control section should be KBps, not Kbps... (it's a minor thing, but just confused me!)

Hello, i can't see any feature that sounds like "trash" folder... i think for a NAS used as security storage unity, should be an important feature. The possibility to delete erroneously a file or a folder should be avoided if possible.

The DNS-320 already contains a "Recycle Bin" feature to prevent erroneously deleted files/directories from permanent removal: Recycle Bin Feature (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42071.0)

Like some of requests like cloud support but i think it would be nicer to have a cloud server like Tonido.

If any items in the wishlist were fixed by the latest firmware, please post and I'll update!

  • General - iPad/IPhone and Android device friendly web interface
  • General - Web interface support for Android 3.2
  • App - Develop app to control the DNS from an Android device

You can easily replace those three with the more elegant and effective

General - Replace current web interface with a simpler standards-based, HTML5 UI designed according to "Responsive Design" principles and best practices and minimal use of gaudy icons and horridly tasteless gradients.

If you need help with that, I'll do it for free.

But DNS-320 always show "Volume_1" so all user try access it.

I hope "Volume_1" show/hide function or hide permanently.

I have been having a persistent problem that I would like to add to the "Wishlist."  Thanks for maintaining this JavaLawyer.

The FTP server does not understand the ALLO command very well, and this command is required by ftpput (the only way to ftp from my VMWARE server). Apparently, ability to understand the ALLO command properly is a standard.   The last firmware update resolved many of these errors (though unfortunately not all).  In particular, I receive an "ALLO: 552 Disk full - please upload later" error when uploading large files.  I know this sounds like my mistake, but I have confirmed that my 2TB drive can, in fact, take the same 2GB files when transferred via normal command line ftp (see http://forum.magiksys.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104#p450).

First off, I want to say THANK YOU for the hard work on version 2.02.  For me going to this version fixed the issue of the files not being in alpahabetic order when viewing with UPnP.  One of the main reasons I bought the box was for streaming and fixing this made things a lot better for my series collections with making the list alphabetized!

A couple of things I noticed about the latest version as my Wishlist

UPnP -  Allow the users to enable access to the P2P folder "complete" within UPnP.  After a torrent is done I would like to use it right away, there is no way to enable this folder within UPnP.  I have to copy things over.  It appears to reside outside of Volume 1 and that is all that can be seen with UPnP folder enable options.

USB Port - A lot of competitors allow backups through their USB port automatically.  Would be nice if we had that feature and ideally if it could be in NTFS format so I could take my drive and go instead of needing specialized software for Windows to see the Linux format.

Are you referring to automatically backing up from USB storage device to the NAS (or the reverse)?
The DNS-320 has a USB copy function (USB -> NAS). There is already a Wishlist items specifying a USB storage device as the destination for a local backup.

First off I want to say thank you to the moderators and people that have helped me and others through this forum.  The help and kindness is much appreciated.   :)

I have been searching through this forum for various things over the last month.  I have noticed an outcry over wishlist items.  Looking at the list today the ratio between requests/issues (65) and closed items (7) on our list is huge.  Being realistic I understand that Dlink may only find value in addressing items that impact a large portion of the users.  I would estimate that we have at least 1/3 of our items that they would consider serious candidates for code development.

To my understanding the product has been out for 9 months and we are averaging less than one fix per month.  Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the fixes in 2.02.  One of the issues for me was fixed under that release.  My concern is about the amount of resources DLink is investing to fix our concerns.  On the surface it appears they need more people or more oversight of the people to make sure the work is getting done.

I think this is a good product and it could be better (like most things in life).  It appears we need a push from our moderators and Dlink Staff that monitors this forum to put some pressure on DLink to prioritize and focus on our requests.  It would be nice if they could share what they are focusing on.

Beyond my plea in this reply is there anything else anyone can do to help accelerate addressing our wishlist?

"Bug" as in why doesn't the latest firmware allow downgrading? Is there specific reason why D-Link is doing so given that newly purchase DNS-320 comes with firmware 1.00!!

That is not a bug the firmware has been coded that way. I do not have details as to why but informed that it is this way by design and not a bug.

Also does anybody knows when can we expect new firmware ?

Thanks for this support !

I think, all "USB notes" are importants (manage externally attached USB HDDs from the web interface for copying to/from the NAS); and I can add a (un)compress (RAR) function, to compress (for example) a whole directory, but without any other computer on.

A good idea : add a "wlan stick" (on usb or hub) to connect this nas without wire !

I agree with you 100%. However, the challenge here is that every suggestion is important or critical to the person making the suggestion.  Although I have a good idea of what is critical versus "nice-to-have", being that this is an open forum, I don't want to censor or categorize the input from the community.

Excuse me, but USB is only an Universal Serial Bus, I thing no hardware modification is required for this... just the good driver(firmware)... for example, DLink DWA-160 Rev A has a linux driver (ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireless/dwa-160/DWA-160_driver_3.2.0.17_rev_A1_linux.zip)

Please fix the bug whereby the UPNP server is not auto-refreshing when new files are copied to existing folders and subfolders:

as posted in some other threads:

When files (250mb or so) get copied over to an EXISTING folder on my DNS-320 the UPNP server is not identifying to my WD Lives (or other devices like SKIFTA) that the folder has new media in it.

Yet, if i browse the folder VIA Samba, I can clearly access the media.

If i do a manual refresh, all is well, but I shouldn't have to manually refresh.

This seemed to start happening once my UPNP folders began containing a large # of files when i moved over my MP3 files

I am fairly new to DNS 320 (1TB Hitachi), but I would like to request a way of controlling if the index of the UPnP has been refreshed/updated possible means to edit the index file and add the file to the index list. And then run a test on the index file if there are any errors.

Basically because all the movie files are copied to the DNS 320 (320 gb worth movies, photo etc.), and all these movies etc. are visible in the "All_Videos" folder, but are not indexed/visible in the "Folders\HD_a2\Movies" where the message "No videos found".

Autorefresh and manual refresh yields no result.

I am using firmware 2.02 (downloaded from d-links homepage).

not sure what you're saying.  Are you having the same issue as the rest of us or are you asking for something different?

From what I've read in the thread regarding UPnP, I think some people are experiencing the same thing as me, however I didn't see on the wishlist a means to verify the index files integrity. e.g. when xbox is asking for the index file in order to display the videos or photo's available for viewing.

I could be wrong and that it has nothing to do with indexing, but it's strange that the xbox goes from showing me the content of a folder to, some 40 movie to "No videos found" when I upload 1 single movie that seems to tip the balance in the same folder.

I hope that you understand what I'm trying to say.

I think I understand what you are saying, but I don't think anyone else was experiencing that issue.

You're saying you have 40 videos, everything is fine.  You add a 41st video and now suddenly you can't see anything.  Correct?

Whereas, we have 40 videos, everything is fine, we add a 41st" video and only THAT video won't show, the other ones continue to show and unless we do a MANUAL refresh, the index is not updated.  While not fully proven, a lot of us seem to have this happen after we add a large # of files to our folder structure (ie: copying over a lot of movies or usually more so when copying our music collection which tends to be a lot more files.)

I'm not 100% sure what the issue is here. Do "ionizer's comments in the prior post accurately capture what you are requesting? If so, I'll need validation from other users that this is a systemic problem, and not an isolated incident before adding your item to the wishlist.   ???

As a Mac user, I would like to see Bonjour support added for broadcast and discovery of AFP volumes by name (instead of having to use afp://"ip address"/share).

I will assume that the failure to copy nested folders/files with the current firmware may be a problem just with the Snow Leopard Samba client and will be addressed as a bug and not a feature.

Thx

We should not have a log into our units to do anything once configured properly.  When my family adds content to the media servers I have to go in because I dont want them to know the device password.  Can we please consider the following as a bug:

•UPnP - Auto-refresh UPnP server when new files are added to existing folders and sub-folders

Additonaly, I consider it more of a bug because sometimes the auto refresh works and sometimes not, others are reporting the same for larger file transfers.

Hello,

I would like to see support for the RMVB file format in the uPNP server.
Currently I'm able to see AVIs, MKVs, MP4s, etc; but RM/RMVB files do not show up.

Thanks!

Hi all,
a change probably very simple to implement would be great: (for me and probably for many users)

In the Remote Backup feature, when creating a new backup task, the firmware checks if there is enough space on the destination drive to store the source directory. If not, the creation is aborted. It would be great if this was only a warning, and if it was possible to finish the creation.

Explanation: I have two DNS 320, 1 Tb of storage each, in two very distant places, and the first is doing the backup of the second through the internet.
I had 600 Gb to backup. to avoid years of synchronisation through internet, I've copied my files on both NAS when they were on the same place, then taken away one of them and set up a backup between them.
I've done a first backup try on a small part of my files (200 Go) and used the incremental backup feature.  Everything worked perfectly well. (and it was amazingly simple to do! )

But, doing that with all my files, the creation is impossible because, in my destination drive (that already contains my 600 Gb), there are only 400 Gb left... and the firmware refuses to set up a backup of a 600 Gb directory...

There is probably a dirty solution by removing 200 Go on my destination drive, create the task, then replace the files (about 15 hours of local file transfer...) ... but I will have to do that everytime I change something in the task (even the frequency of the backup! ) and it will be really annoying...

I hope my explanations are clear... (and if anyone has a solution... I think I can try with the FTP automated download, but I am not sure and anyway it would be less "clean")

And a happy new year to all !

Ability to install programs such as Twonky server, instead of having to manually install.

Setup a security server, plug in a powered usb hub and be able to setup for security purposes. upto 10 webcams, ip camera's

Be able to plug in a extenal hard drive and transfer the data from it. or setup that a backup automatically kicks in if the external hard drive has been setup from with in the dns as a backup drive.

I know that the NAS can send an email with the SMART report, but i would like to get (through email) the complete SMART report, not just : "The Result Of The Test Is: Pass", specially when I select the full SMART test which takes a few hours to perform.

Also, could we somehow customize the email templates ? I like the "Sincerely, Your NAS" part but it's sometimes annoying :)

Didn't add this item as this is too "off to the side" in terms of critical or value added functionality

I think i found a regression...
I'm used to acess remotely my NAS, in a port diferent then 80.

When i get login (example myname.dyndns.info:8888), if goes to "myname.dyndns.info/web/application_user.html", changing to port 80 / lossing port parameter and giving me timeout error
(previous firmware 2.0 would stay in "myname.dyndns.info:8888/web/application_user.html"

I've used to do this with firefox, now testing with chrome and same issue.
Maybe,

[Bug - Losing portforward / forced 80 port redirect after login ? ]

TFTP Server so i could install OS via PXE would be a nice addition to the wonderful NAS

Reminder for notifications support using SMTP servers that uses TLS/SSL, ie Gmail, hotmail etc.

really would be useful since i dont wanna run a standalone mailserver just to mail logs to me

I saw that others had similar problems to mine regarding hard drive format. For some reason the DNS 320 doesn't seem to want to format the 2nd drive unless it's alone in the NAS.

Maybe a future firmware could fix this problem ?

Well if the NAS supported SMTP via TLS/SSL i could use my google acc for sending me maillogs from my nas since they only support TLS/SSL communications

Looking closer at the "Wishlog" it seems to be there already

hi, JavaLawyer:

•Bug - Fix RAID1 "upgrade" when adding a new drive (see topic: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38321.0). Issue may result from inspecting the HDD format from ffp

It means that the current firmware version 2.02 could not fix this Standard to RAID1 upgrade issue?
When will the new offical firmware be released?

The integrated uPnP AV Server is not streaming subtitles on my LG TV. Replacing it with miniDLNA would be fantastic (I already have it installed, since I have Debian Squeeze on my storage, and it works great).

@.Toast: You're right, man. I looked, but I missed that one, and I apologize for that :( Anyway, miniDLNA can be suggested as a solution (tried more apps and miniDLNA is the only one free one I found that displays subtitles on my LG TV).

Hi, sorry my english is not very good  :-\

The first problem I have encountered in the P2P application is that when I stop for a completed file on the P2P file list, can't play again to seed.

The icon Play/stop disappears and instead appears a "--" character

Can you understand me?

The .torrent files dropped in P2P/torrent folders disappears when the download begins

The other problem is that when  I'm downloading files (not completed) if i disable the P2P service and enable again the list of downloads aparently resets.

The status bar of the each download resets to 0%

The complete downloads in the list begin to download again.

thanks for all

I took a look through the DNS-320 FW Wishlist forum and didn't see a request for iSCSI support, so I'll ask.

I have a project that will use a number of Raspberry Pi processors and don't want to run the systems off of the SD card (wear issues) and don't want to run off of a USB external hard drive (cost). I'd love to be able to have one of the HDs in the DNS-320 partitioned and boot reach R-Pi off of their own partition. I'd keep the other HD for iTunes, TimeMachine, and other CIFS access.

Raspberry Pi information can be found at http://www.raspberrypi.org/ and http://elinux.org/RaspberryPiBoard.

Official Word on Offline Files Sync
Dear Tim,

Thank you for your email.

The Offline feature on DNS-320 has been removed to add stability to the device and performance. At this stage support for The Offline feature on DNS-320 is not available. We have flagged this with R&D to look into as a future upgrade however we cannot provide a timeframe or guarantee that it will become available. If it becomes available, we will post the updated software on our web site.

If you have any further enquires please reply to this email so we can assist you further.

*** Guys I dont know how relevant that any of your requests will be looked into... Instead of keeping a wish list I would be pressing hard that they actually, fix bugs and maintain with regular firmware updates. Stop dreaming they will never in our lifetime add features such as mail server android apps. They can't even support it in its current form.

As a new owner of a 320 may I add to the almighty list.

Items I can't see on the list but I would find useful:

[1] This way I can simply move a number of partitions from my PC to my NAS and continue working as before. Also, as HD get ever larger I still feel it makes sense from a security and performance aspect to have smaller partitions (e.g. a 1TB drive split into 4 x 250MB for music, video, backups, software library.

Items I can see on the existing list and I would find particularly useful:

[2] This way I can have the power supply on a mains timers and then the NAS to power-up a few minutes after the power is restored. The reverse can already be done with the NAS timed power-down. Also, I was told by a fire officer there is an increasing number of fires caused by power blocks (transformers) and I've known friends have new power blocks explode and many instances of short lifespan.

Ability to set the 320 as the master browser on the network, like the synology drives can, with a simple check box in a network setting (change smb.conf with "local master = yes", and add "preferred master = yes", "domain master = yes")

Changing these manually doesn't work as i cant seem to find away to restart the samba service to use the new config file, and upon reboot the changes revert to default options

There is a problem with large files (larger than 2 Gb) and AjaxExplorer (more details HERE (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=46226.0)).
If they would update the AjaxExplorer, this problem would probably be fixed (and a few more :) )

Hello - May I know whether any plan to have DNS320 and DNS323 to be Personal Cloud Storage ability by firmware upgrade, please? I have 2 DNS320 and 1 DNS323 at home - it would another expense if I need to buy another DLINK for just Personal Cloud Storage feature? DLINK term is "MyDlinkCloud"...
Thanks for advice.

I believe that you should give some priority to:

•UPnP - Add Subtitle (*.srt) support for media files in "UPNP AV SERVER"

There are people in this forum (like myself) who paid 1.000 euro or more to buy a new TV to stream movies and it turns out that the Dlink box doesn't support subtitles!!!

Unacceptable.... Please give some priority - i already lost a hell lot of time, because i thought that it was the TV that had the issue... please.

Although I'm sure some requests are more important than others, it would be unfair to prioritize any requests as each entry is equally important to the member (or members) who originally added the item.

so, you believe the a change requested by 1 person has the same priority as a change requested by 2-3 or more?

I don't agree.

Also i believe that this should be considered more like a "bug" not a request.

If you setup a free uPnp server on your laptop subtitles appear fine on the TV, but when you use the dlink (that claims to support uPnp) it doesn't? - this is what you buy this for, not to have your laptop/pc running al the time....

Many requests on this list were raised in this (and other) threads by as many as 2 to 10+ members. Since I don't have access to a complete (and accurate) list tying the number of individuals to each request, I left this list in alphanumeric order.

I will relabel the aforementioned item as a "bug" if you think it will garner more attention.

Please fix these things in next DNS-320 firmware:

1) bug in "USB Copy Function":
- keep ORIGINAL files&folders timestamp (file creation and modification time) while copying files from USB to NAS by "USB copy button"
(now files&folders timestamp changed to current time - this is wrong - not original file creation time)

2) feature in "S.M.A.R.T. Test":
if option "Send Result By E-mail" is enabled, append new text to mail-report:
- harddrive name "Left" or "Right"
- all SMART-attributes from harddrive
- ScanStartTime, ScanEndTime, ScanTotalTime
- ScanStartTemperature, ScanEndTemperature of system and harddrive
- if result of the test is "FAIL": add list of bad block numbers

Best regards

Network Management - Dynamic DNS: the ability to set the update frequency

I think this would be pretty useful. 24 days and one hour is a very long time for those who's PPPoE reconnects frequently.

Another Network Management - LAN Setup thingy: the ability to set a second IP address (with no gateway and DNS) would be great for those who have the same network layout as I do: a Gigabit switch for LAN transfers and a regular 10/100 router for internet access. I solved it by installing Debian Squeeze and defining another IP address there, but maybe there are others that might find it useful :)

Ability to expand a RAID-1 setup (ie, expand the capacity of a mirror set by replacing a drive with another of a higher capacity, then replace the other original drive and have the ability to expand the drive.)

This would allow taking a mirrored pair of 400GB drive up to 2+TB drives, without any data loss.

I know that a lot of RAID controllers allow this sort of action, so it would definitely be on my wishlist...

RAID scaling is a feature I would certainly like to see, but unfortunately, this functionality is far more than a firmware update (requiring a substantial modification of the RAID controller).

[Bug] Files are 0kb when transferring over SMB.

Both Windows' built-in client and Teracopy copy the file, but when the file is closed, the file is 0kb. This issue does not occur with FTP.

Thanks for the update!

Another feature to add in a future firmware release would be some sort of php and sql system for the webserver to enable other functions like a bulletin board system. I had this on an older Synology NAS that I replaced with the DNS-320 and I miss having that feature. I suppose I could install fun_plug to get these features but I'm not sure.

-the "Recycle Bin Option" - dont work in smb (i follow http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42071.0)
it direct delete the file, cant find any deleted file at "Ajaxpf/recycle_bin" or other where else. but at 2.0.2, using Ajaxplorer delete file, the file will move to "Ajaxpf/recycle_bin"

- and is Ajaxplorer application removed (2.0.3b1) ? because i cant found it under applications ..... so cant test above in 2.0.3b1

Not sure if this has been mentioned or even fixed, but I'm having issues with hibernating the NAS when P2P is enabled/disabled. Surely when the schedule is set, the box should hibernate when the P2P is not in running (i.e. not in the scheduled time on the settings page).

Yes it's about Hibernation setting.

If you set the setting to 15 minutes and you have P2P enabled to specific times, the NAS won't go into hibernation when the P2P is not in the allotted time.

I would expect the NAS to go into hibernation when the P2P schedule is not met.

I have also noticed when I disable the P2P functionality, the NAS still doesn't go into hibernation.

Is this issue the same as the hibernation issues described on the DNS-325 Firmware Wishlist: DNS-325 Firmware Wishlist (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=43822.0)? (scroll down to "Hibernation")

I would also like to see an alternate torrent server on my dns-320.

When I bought the DNS-320 i installed the 2.02 firmware right away. I installed one 2TB and one 1TB WD HDD on JBOD. I started to move files with tera copy. When the move was complete I realized that most of my movie file ended up damaged. When I use windows copy manager I don't have that problem. If that could be fixed I would be most gratefull

With 2.02 i could not overwrite or resume Files during upload. Now it works as it should do.

A small Problem, if i try to login via ssh on port 443 i get:
sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial

German Text:
"Ihr Zertifikat enthält die gleiche Seriennummer wie ein anderes Zertifikat dieser Zertifizierungsstelle. Bitte erwerben Sie ein neues Zertifikat mit einer eindeutigen Seriennummer."
its about "same Serial Number as an other Certificate"

I have tried firefox and IE
I have also deleted the old certificates from FF, but dont helps.

Not a big Problem for me, because i dont use my dns720 from the Internet.

My biggest wish is "General - Support for HTTPS downloads", which is already on youre List.

Thanks,
Thomas

I've had a play and it does seem to be an issue with the P2P. Sometimes the NAS is OK and at other times it just never goes into hibernation.

Both Windows' built-in client and Teracopy copy the file, but when the file is closed, the file is 0kb. This issue does not occur with FTP.

I'm still having the problem in this BASIC feature of the device. I think the problem is serious. We can lose files because the device doesn't advice of the error when the file is 0kb.

Hi,

When's the official new firmware being released please? I'm currently using version 2.02 and I would rather not use beta versions.

However, I currently cannot use my D-Link Pulse 320 as an iTunes server because of an apparent incompatibility between the NAS and iTunes software. Upon attempting to connect to a shared library on my Pulse, within the iTunes software, it loads continually and never ends.

This happens whether the library I share has 1000 files or just 10. Very frustrating.

Information as to when a firmware update that will iron this out would be very welcome please.

Thanks

Prior to adding this request, can other DNS-320 owners please provide average transfer speeds for copying a large volume of small files (kb sized) from a PC to the DNS-320? Also, please provide the HDD configuration and HDD make/model.

Add support for Amazon Glacier (http://aws.amazon.com/glacier/) pretty please!!!

I haven't looked at the APIs yet, but I would imagine it'll be pretty similar to Amazon S3...

please add LOGS - have options to choose what gets logged.

this should be extremely easy to add to next firmware.

When I check my logs,  most of it is filled up with the fan speed changing.
would be quite nice to have a under the logs menu tick box options saying what gets logged.

Hi Javalawyer,

It's in the very 2nd post in this thread, I copied and pasted an excerpt below:

Similarly to the poster above, I have deduced the issue is with the uPnP AV server on DNS 320, cause essentially, album artwork does not display properly on my uPnP media player, while streaming from other media servers like Twonky or Asset is ok.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but would you be able to advise if the DNS320 uPnP AV server is able to pull up artwork for a folder from thumbnails titled album.jpg or cover.jpg or something similar?

I mainly play .flac files.

Yes, that's an old thread, and the genesis of the existing DLNA item already on the list. . . It's been so long that I forgot that was on the list. I don't think this issue was addressed.  As far as I know, third party products are (still) required to properly display thumbnail art. There are other owners who lodged the same complaint.  :-\

Unfortunately, I don't have that level of visibility into the DNS-320 firmware road map.  The best that I could do right now is continue to push this list and independently bring high-impact issues to D-Link's attention, which I have been doing all along.
