I've been experimenting with Jumbo Frames and using NASTester with a 2 GB test file for the testing. I have gigabit devices and cabling all around and using WinXP Pro.
I have noticed that there is a large spread between my average read and my average writes. For example having my computer set at 4000 MTU and the 323 set at 4000 my average write is 18.4 MB/s and the average read is 28.7 MB/s. Just wondering if this is normal or should these values be closer together?
Thanks

Actually, you're getting better write speeds that I do with a similar configuration. I am using RAID-1, which may be different from your setup.

Thanks for replying. I would like to optimize my network throughput. My primary concerns are fragmentation and optimizing speed so I am trying to get a reading as to whether these numbers I have posted are reasonable or not.

The seem reasonable for what I've seen here.

OK Thanks again!

with 9k jumbo frames I can burst read 32mb/s very breifly and it settles to 25mb/s burst writes 22mb/s and 16mb/s constant. I am using a raid0 config, so my numbers should be lower than single disk or raid 1 config. I also recently moved my nas to a different room where the cable run with meow5e is twice as long, I took a bit of a performace hit there too :(
I would say you are getting max performance from your DNS
It is normal for a difference in reads vs writes, as writing to the disks uses more CPU power (especially with a raid config). The CPU is the bottleneck here.
enjoy.

Thanks for the info Tank Killer! :)
