This is from 1.11 firmware fix list
 --------------------------------------------
 ¤ Enhanced DHCP WAN compatibility.
¤ Improved DHCP Client Table List.
 ¤ Utilize latest Widget Version.
¤ Removed the support of 802.11d.
¤ Added PPtP and IPSec ALG support.

Does this mean I can configure one DIR-655 to accept router-to-router IPSec tunnels from two other DIR-655?

It is getting increasingly clear to me that this is what we need in our home network to have family pictures/music/documents centrally, and remotely accessing and backing up over CIFS shares, securely!

If this is the case I can unpack my two newly ordered DIR-655 with a peace of mind. Otherwise I will have to use store return policy on them and get the Brand L WRVS4400N (which can handle 5 router-to-router IPSec tunnels and 5 IPSec VPN Software clients).

No, it just means it has an added ALG (application layer gateway) feature added that you can turn on and off. It is for software based VPN clients, if you want a hardware based get the DIR-130, or DIR-330.
