My system log shows constant attempts to ConnectToServer failing. Most of the router behavior seems ok, but I do have one laptop that has frequent problems connecting to internet sites as if it has no DNS service, and then it will start working again later. I was getting these with FW v1.4 and tried back-leveling to 1.3 but get the same error. Here are the messages:

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=49573.0)
- What region are you located?
- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
- Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
Link> >FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Where did you get v1.04 from? Current released version is v1.03. At least for the NA region.
-
I'm in North Carolina, US. Connecting wireless from multiple devices. One laptop is having more issues than any other device. It frequently tells me I have no internet access or cannot find any external URLs. I did NOT do a factory reset before or after firmware updates, and have never done that with any other router I've owned. This D-Link router is replacing an ASUS RT-N66U that worked without problems for this laptop.
My ISP is Spectrum cable. I use my own modem, a NETGEAR CM600.
FW v1.04 is the version that the modem wants me to install when I go to the Upgrade page in the Admin console.
I've updated the settings to turn off SmartConnect as it was causing issues communicating between my computer and wireless printer (different bands could not talk to each other). I've also updated DNS settings to use Google DNS instead of my ISP. This has improved things slightly, but still have frequent problems connecting to the internet using this router from this one laptop.
-
Please factory reset the router and setup from scratch and then let us know if these log entries are still present.
Ill check with D-Link to see if v1.04 maybe posted to the update servers and not posted to the download web site yet. I believe v1.04 was posted however was pulling from public use. May have been re-posted again.
-
Ok, I just put my 2680 online behind a CM1100 modem.
I see v1.04 is available.
New Firmware Version: 1.04
New Firmware Date: 2019/10/2
I'll check with D-Link on this.
-
I did a factory reset and the same error messages appear in the log. It's a constant stream of them.
-
Any progress on this?
Which FW version are you currently using?
-
No change here. I'm running FW 1.04 and the logs still have this error repeated in a constant stream.
-
I'll see if we can get some information on this...
Is the router working otherwise?
-
I sent this to the router guys. Being Chinese New Year I will not get anything back until 1st week in February.
On the laptop did you statically enter the DNS servers or are you getting it from the router (DHCP)?
Do all web browsers behave the same?
From your laptop, can you ping URLs (yahoo.com for example) and get responses?
Did you block any ports on the router?
Is there anything connected between the router and modem?
Did you install any of the McAfee software?
-
I'm not sure if the log error messages are causing any issues or not (although the frequency makes me concerned with the potential performance impact). The only issues I have been seeing are on a single laptop that I need to frequently drop and reconnect to be able to get DNS entries resolved from the router. Other machines appear to be working with no issues.
I sent this to the router guys. Being Chinese New Year I will not get anything back until 1st week in February.
On the laptop did you statically enter the DNS servers or are you getting it from the router (DHCP)? I'm getting it from the router. I'm currently using the OpenDNS IP addresses on the router.
Do all web browsers behave the same? Chrome seems to have more issues than Firefox, but I do see DNS failures to resolve addresses from time to time there as well, especially if the laptop has been idle for a bit. Note that this is only happening on one laptop. My desktop, phones, and other laptops haven't seen any issue, so it could be a problem with an older network adapter.
From your laptop, can you ping URLs (yahoo.com for example) and get responses? Not when I start getting failures in the browser
Did you block any ports on the router? No
Is there anything connected between the router and modem? No
Did you install any of the McAfee software? No

Did anyone resolve this issue? Seeing the same thing with my new 2680. Have both wired and wireless devices. Have tried using both V1.03 & V1.04 firmware and these errors still fill up the logs.

In the Northeast, using Xfinity gig speed. Moden is a netgear CM1150V

Have you been noticing any problems with the router other than this logging?
-
I'm also experiencing the same issue with my new D-Link DIR-2680 (firmware 1.04).
I'm based in Sydney, Australia (ISP: Aussie Broadband).
I'm intermittently seeing issues on my MacBook Pro, specifically on google.com and www.google.com not being able to resolve. I've tried setting Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1) and Google DNS (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) on the router and separately also on the MacBook. This did not help at all. It's not browser related; it happens when I ping said domains, and same result from Chrome / Safari.
I've not had issues on my phone (Google Pixel), except for occasionally reporting that my Wi-Fi doesn't have internet, while the connection seems just fine.
I've restarted the router an hour ago, so far no issues (although the log entries immediately showed up again).
In general, the issues seems to only be around google.com and www.google.com not being able to resolve. Otherwise it works well.
I've registered for a D-Link cloud account and downlaoded the D-Fend / McAfee app. However I already had these issues before I registered.
-
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.
Link> Tech Support Contact Information (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=635.0)
We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Has the solution to this problem found? I have a DIR-2680 with same issue

I have contacted D-link tech support multiple times, have had my router replaced but the problem persists. So far D-link Support has not been able to provide an explanation on why these Syslog errors are getting logged and what the resolution is. Tried multiple things as requested by them but nothing has worked/resolved the issue.

Is the router exhibiting problems?

Ok, so I took a dive into this with my 2680. I'm seeing the same thing. Just had 1 wired PC and wireless was disabled. Even tried with just 1 browser and tab open to the routers web page. Rebooted and these entries continue soon after the router is back to ready. I got with on online chat support and got a bit more steps to try. I disconnected the router from ISP services and rebooted the router. After giving 3-5 minutes, these log entries are NOT seen. Only 5 lines are seen. One the modem services was re-connected, the log entries began again. Support feels this is a router/FW side issue.
So they would like me and any other users experiencing this, to send support@dlink.com an email with all your information, troubleshooting steps, FW version loaded and anything else you think would help them review this more. Include any other D-Link routers that you may have and tried to compare. Also ISP service and modem mfr and model would be helpful as well. Send this off in a email and let see if we can get D-link to take a look and make a correction regarding this.
Other than this, the router seems to work ok. If users are experiencing other problems that I don't see, please include that as well.

Thank you for looking into this and confirming its not just an isolated case! I contacted D-link Support again and they have offered me another replacement (3rd one) but I guess there's no point in replacing as they will all behave the same until D-link releases a f/w fix. Generally, it seems to be working fine but there are intermittent moments of internet dropouts and the router rebooting/crashing.

- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) to find out. How many?
What devices do you have connected?

Here is what I got from D-Link support about these log entries:
"Date of Reply: 8/10/2020 2:54:17 PM
Products: DIR-2680-US
I have been told that it is just some debugging info that is leaked into the syslog that will be removed in the next firmware release. It is nothing to be concerned about. "
