Is there a reason why the user's password can't exceed 8 characters?

It is a limitation of the linux login system embedded in the DNS-323.

Can I make a strong plea to allow stronger passwords
I use the DNS323 for multimedia storage, but I also have an old PC clunker set up with Windows Home Server for PC backup on a home network
Admin privleges on WHS demands a stronger password (>8 characters, mix of letters/capitals/numerals) than the DNS323 will swallow
I understand an update of the Linux OS on the 323 would allow more complex passwords, as well as addressing the NTLM2 issue with Vista
Please for firmware 1.05!
