Title: Error 302?
Post by: schrism on July 23, 2009, 06:30:38 PM
During 655 quick router setup I am consistently receiving "Error 302: Internal error".  Does anyone know what this means and how to remedy it?  Thanks.  Tried setup on multiple computers with same result.

I am having the exact same problem!  >:(

This is very frustrating. Have you found a solution to the problem?

Try logging into the router and doing the setups manually, this usually works much better.

I thought so too, but I couldn't find the settings I was looking for, and I've been through all the menus and sub-menus.

All I want to do is add my Canon MP730 Multi-Pass printer to my network. I'm not even sure if I'm doing it right.

I figured since I want it to be on the network, I unplugged it from my tower and plugged the USB cable to the back of the router.

But now it won't detect my printer at all.   >:(

Hi,

For the printer, did you enable the SharePort USB settngs in the router setups ?  It is under USB Settings on the Setup page.

I have my canon iP4500 set up using NETWORK USB from the menu list.

Then you have to install the shareport utility software on each client that you want to have access the canon printer.  Then you have to make sure the canon printer sriver is installed on each pc that you want to print to the canon printer.  Then reboot each pc after installing shareport software and canon printer driver/software.

Whew.

Yes, under the USB Settings it reads : My USB type is : Shareport.

Where do I get the Shareport utility driver? I think that's what I'm missing, and why doesn't it automatically detect when I plug it in?

Hi,

I am runnign firmware (FW) v1.21 (USA) if that makes any differences....not sure.   The USB Settings menu doesn't have SHAREPORT in mine....  Maybe they changed it in newer FW....??

Could be...I just did a firmware upgrade to the latest version, but I'm not sure if it's a firmware issue because I've never connected my printer to the router before. LOL.

So...who knows if the firmware upgrade mucked it up, or if I'm doing something wrong?   :P

Hi,

Would have suggested that you not have updated the FW to latest version.  Plenty to read about why I make that suggestion.  But its too late now....  Keep an eye on its behavior...maybe you will be one of the lucky ones...

The shareport instructions I wrote above should still be valid for you...

Well, I installed the Shareport utility. It seemed fairly straight forward, and it automatically detected my printer and started installing the drivers for my printer (as if I was plugging it into my tower). But when I exit the Shareport utility, I noticed my printer was no longer available. So I guess I have to have the Shareport application running all the time?

Hi,

Yes...Shareport needs to be running on each client pc you want to be able to print to the printer plugged in to the USB port on the router....this would also be true if you were using a network hard drive or the like...

Some folks have posted about using a USB hub into the router's USB port with some success...tho I have never tried that....

Ok...I'm a bit confused by that last post *Smile*.

- My main PC (my tower) has the Canon MP730 & the D-Link DIR-655 router connected to it.
- I now have the Shareport utility on that same PC

Here's what I need to know :

In order to access this printer, obviously my printer would have to be on but would my main PC (tower) (the one with the Shareport utility) have to be on as well?   ???

If the printer is only connected to the USB port of the router then yes you will need whatever PC you are trying to use the printer with turned on and have shareport installed on that PC.

So that means, if I wish to access the printer from either my laptop or my son's PC (another tower), we have to install Shareport on each of them, is that correct?

Yes, correct.

Yes, correct.

I noticed a version of Shareport utility for both the PC and for MacOS.

Don't suppose there's a Linux copy floating around, eh?   ;D

No Linux version, that's right. The original manufacturer also does not supply a Linux version.

Thanks for all the help guys! You've really cleared the air on this matter for me.

I've been doing some digging around for some Linux Shareport solutions (since my sons PC uses Ubuntu), but I'll keep that to the appropriate Linux forums.   :D

Thanks again to all who helped me out.
