				hi  :)
can i take a ext4 harddisk from a DNS-320L and insert it in a DNS-315 and read the disk, or must i reformat the disk and lose all data on it?

If the HDD is formatted as Standard Configuration, then the HDD "may" mount successfully, but no guarantee.  If you haven't already done so, make sure you make a backup of your data prior to any data migration activities such as this one.

D-Link made improvements to the HDD  filesystem when they moved from the DNS-XXX to DNS-XXXL (Cloud Enabled) models. Unfortunately, the changes resulted in the loss of backwards compatibility.
