- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded?
- What region are you located?
I would set up a static IP address on the router thats out side of hot main host routers IP address pool, i.e. 192.168.0.34 or .45.
PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
- Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.

thanks for the welcome and reply!
Im in the UK and using 1.03 firmware, router address at the moment is 192.168.1.137.
Ive used chrome and safari on a mac and chrome/firefox and ie 11 on Windows.

I would walk thru, use wizards if possible, using a Windows PC and IE11 first and see how it goes. Use the users manual to guide you and help with information.
Please post a picture of what your seeing so we can better have an idea of what your into:

So ive been fiddling and can get the usb drive to show up as a network share, but still no joy with the main drives. I can stream using twonky and can access te router through the mycloud web address.
-
Now when i try and add a network share IE just hangs then times out.
-
Also noticed that when i disconnect the DNS from the router it and connect directly by cable to the laptop the setup wizard wont find it.
-
I recommend setting up a Static IP address first off on the DNS. I personally use 192.168.0.34 for mine. You can use .45 or something easy for you to remember and thats not inside your routers default DHCP IP address pool. It needs to be outside of the pool. Most D-Link routers default pool are 192.168.0.100 thru .199.
The DNS needs to be connect to a router as it needs DHCP IP address services from the router. You can use a switch in between the router and DNS as well which is preferred to help limit any un-necessary router processing. You can connect your wired PC to the switch as well. Set up a IP address reservation for the PC ON the router.

Hi again
Am i setting that on the NAS or on my router? I did try using those IP's but it wouldnt accept them?
-
Set the Static IP address ON the DNS, set up the Reservation IP address ON the router.
What Mfr and model# is the main host router?

I've got a BT Homehub 5, here is a screen shot of the router page the NAS is showing on (http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh314/euan002/Bt%20Hub%20NAS_zps2f9gkhnu.jpg) (http://s259.photobucket.com/user/euan002/media/Bt%20Hub%20NAS_zps2f9gkhnu.jpg.html)
-
Is it when i get to this part of the wizard i set the static IP (http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh314/euan002/lan%20dns_zpsrqilb7zs.jpg) (http://s259.photobucket.com/user/euan002/media/lan%20dns_zpsrqilb7zs.jpg.html)
If so it wont let me set an IP address as low as the ones you suggest?
-
Remove the IP address configuration from the main host router and set up the Static IP address ON the DNS using it's web page. Just leave the DNS set to DHCP on the main host router so it gets an IP address. Use that dynamic IP address it gets to connect to the DNS's web page. Once there, go in and set a Static IP address ON the DNS. Static IP address should be 192.168.1.34, Gateway will be the IP address of your main host router, so if it's 192.168.1.254, use that. Subnet Mask will be the same as what the Main Host router uses, I presume 255.255.255.0

Still no joy, can access the usb drive but IE is locking up when i try and change the network share ive also noticed this error message in the log CIFS: Authentication for user ["my email"] has FAILED and there is this one CIFS: [::ffff:192.168.1.68] connected to [USBDisk1_1] as user [nobody].
-
Does FF do the same thing? ???
-
yep and chrome, ive reset my router and have upgraded the dlink to the latest fimware and will reset it in the morning start afresh. hopefully have more success. find it odd the usb drive shares with no problems
-
Run thru the User Manual to see if there is any USB drive set up information there. There maybe...
Keep us posted.

Ok an update, managed to connect to the NAS using iscsi and no issues there. Ended up running the wizard from the cd again and wiping the drives and setting them up as two independant drives. This is the only time its ever asked me to assign a drive letter which i did and can now connect all the time to the NAS through windows. Need to pluck up the courage to try the Mac again! Only issue i have is when transferring from USB to the NAS its really slow somewhere between 5-10mbs and the same over the network so need to sort that out
-
Use SMB:\\ to connect to the drives from Mac.
I highly recommend installing a external Gb network switch between the main host router and NAS/PCs. This will help eliminate any un-necessary router processing that may impact performances.
Look at a D-Link DGS-105 or 108 as a suggestion.

Hi
Thanks for all your help over the last day or so, i really appreciate it! Ive ordered the D-Link DGS-105 and some cat6e cables. I think ive got a power supply kicking about as it looks like it doesnt come with one so hopefully that will speed things up a bit.
Cheers

Good. Let us know how it all turns out. Glad to be of help. ;)

Got the switch and the the cables, transferring wirelessly is running at 21mbs which seems ok? Will try the usb drive plugged into the NAS and see what that runs at now the switch is attached.
