Title: Issues with Brother MFC-9840CDW
Post by: gg4rest on May 06, 2014, 06:26:37 AM
My printer is connected to the DIR-855L via a wired connection. The printer loses connection periodically. I've also noticed dropping of wired connections to my laptop.

When will there be an update to the firmware for this unit? It has been almost a year since the last update.

Is this wired connection with the printer LAN wire or USB wire?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

The HW version is A01 and Firmware is 1.01. The printer is connected via the LAN wire. My region is Canada.

I tried all the settings but nothing appears to have fixed the issue other than power cycling the unit. The only thing I didn't try was setting up DHCP reserved IP addresses. I would have but can't because I have more devices than the limit of 32 devices. This is fundamental flaw with the router and I wouldn't have purchased it had I known of that limitation.

I recommend doing this as I do with my printer and other devices that don't need a IP address reservation, set a static IP address ON the printer. Set it to 192.168.0.98, 98 being the first 2 digits in the printers model number and it's out side of the DHCP reservation pool.

You can do this for those devices that don't need a lot of router management or Internet access, Devices like NAS, printers, Fax, phones and house devices and such. I do this for a several of my devices. This will free up the reservation pool for other higher priority devices that need router management.

Try this first and if it doesn't' seem to clear the problem, your 2 versions of FW behind, you could update FW then test again.

If you do choose to update, please follow this always:
