Anyone try this yet? I'm going to but will need to wait until the weekend.

I've upgraded my DGL-4500 to v1.21b01 already, but I still have the same problem that the SharePort Utility v1.1.0 R1 cannot connect to my Canon MP610 via SharePort USB (I'm using "Connect automatically only for printing") which keeping connecting, connected, available then connecting again repeatly. Once I power recycle my DGL-4500, the printing resumes immediately and automatically. I have this problem since I upgraded my DGL4500 from v1.15 to v1.20 and replace SharePort USB Utility v1.14 by the newest SharePort Utility v1.10. I can print via SharePort only for few days (2~4 days), then connection failure until reboot the DGL4500 !!
-
Before you upgrade firmware on your DIR-655 be sure to go check the forum for that router. There are quite a few threads discussing problems in many firmware version > 1.22b05. It may save you some problems.
-
Well, according to the Release Note of DGL4500 firmware v1.21beta01, only 1 fix for SharePort - "3. Fix SharePort for HP printer". It seems that this newer firmware just solve the compatibility of SharePort for HP printers, but not really fix the connection issues and slow performance proproblems on SharePort. :-\

Tried this firmware (Build 2) and printing is back up. :)
-
I spoke too soon. Worked for a bit, and now, isn't connecting to the printer when I want to print. It's just available but when I print, it hangs in the que. Dang.
-
Confirmed that I MUST REBOOT my DGL-4500 everyday for printing via the SharePort. :-[
In these days, I have many printing almost everyday. It is very frustrating that I can not connect to my Canon MP610 printer via the SharePort. The only "solution" is I must click "Reboot the Device" in the administration menu or power cycle the DGL-4500, then the printing resumes immediately automatically. ps. I always turn off my printer and PC after used, only the DGL-4500 will run 24 hours.
note. Again, my DGL-4500 with v1.15 can run for couple weeks without any reboot but no issue on printing via the SharePort.
Dear Ru-Fi-Oh,
Any solution? Do you have any timeline for the new firmware (at least for DGL-4500) and SharePort Utility?
Thanks.

I updated the DIR-655 firmware to the 1.32 beta version. Shareport still will not find my attached USB printer (Canon Pixma 4000) until I reboot the router. Once it has been detected, I can connect and reconnect from 3 PCs fine for a while, but, sooner or later (usually every day) I have to reboot the router before Shareport will work again.

The same happen on my DGL-4500 with v1.20 & v1.21beta01 that I must reboot the router in order my Canon MP610 printer can be connected. I've tested that the connections can be made only for around 3 to 4 hours. After that, the SharePort Utility can see the printer but CANNOT connect to printer ever until reboot the router.

Try this code out if you have a DIR-655 and shareport issues.

need some feedback outside of dlink. Thank you!

FYI,I am having the same issue as everybody else -- connects from 3 PCs fine for a few hours, then disconnects as soon as I try to print, going back to available status. Rebooting the router resolves the problem for a while (a few hours).
This is with a DIR-655 and an Epson Workforce 500 multi-function printer. All PCs are running Win XP SP3.
Waiting for the referenced code to go out of beta before I download and update the firmware on my router. I don't run beta code :-\
-
What firmware are you at right now?
-
I just installed firmware v1.32 Beta 3 on my DIR-655 A4 router a few minutes ago and am going to test out the SharePort functionality through the day to see if it still works after the router's been on for a few hours. I've got the router connected to a Samsung ML-1740 laser printer. I really hope this fixes the "device is available but cannot connect" bug that so many people (including myself) have posted about at this forum.
UPDATE 1: It's been about two-and-a-half hours since the router was powered on and SharePort is still able to connect to my printer. Let's see how long this lasts...
UPDATE 2: Less than three hours after the router was powered on, SharePort is no longer able to connect to my printer. What a major disappointment to say the least...

I DO NOT understand that why they keeps to ask us to try the newest beta frimware if we have SharePort issue. Well, those beta 2 or beta 3 firmware of other router, like my DGL-4500 still HAS THE SAME BUG on the SharePort. Why not D-Link re-use the old code of SharePort from the ex-v1.2x of DIR655 and ex-v1x of DGL-4500.
Please note that this bug was happened since v1.3x (DIR) & v1.2x (DGL) for 2 months aleady.

Is the PC thats having trouble with shareport the one thats running jumbo frames?
-
Dear Lycan,
I've used Jumbo Frame since I bought the DGL4500 last year but I had have the SharePort problem after I upgraded my DGL4500 to v1.20 and now v1.21. Can you explain why I didn't have any problem on SharePort with firmware v1.15 & v1.13? My other PC connecting via D-Link DHP300 (only 100M connection) also has problem with SharePort. When none of my 2 PC can connect to printer, the only "solution" is reboot the router then the SharePort problem will gone and the printing resume immediately.
I've read some threads here and dslrepports.com that some users also have SharePort problem on their notebook via WiFi who are DIR655, DIR825 and DGL4500 owners. They also can see their printer and HDD on SharePort but cannot make the connection. Keep "available", "connecting", "connected", then revert to "available in couple of seconds.
Anyway, I will disable Jumbo Frame from all my PC and NAS which should make my DGL-4500 run only MTU1500. Then I will test to confirm how long the SharePort will then not working.
Please note that I did trigger Factory Reset my DGL4500 then re-input all rules and configurally manually instead of import any CFG file from v1.1x. I guest that my DGL4500 now is purely v1.2x.
Do you think the PM will re-consider to reuse the old codes of SharePort from the older firmware?
-
I've changed my PC and NAS not to use Jumbo Frame which only MTU1500. Also, my DGL-4500 has been rebooted.
Unfortunately, the SharePort problem still exists.
-
I've tried the dir655_firmware_132b02NA_beta03_final and the shareport is still not working. It connects to the printer for 10 seconds and then disconnects. This is a major problem and needs to be fixed.
-
You know what sounds good... a new firmware in which is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY similar to the 1.21. just re-arrange the scripts and then walah... PROBLEM FIXED...
i mean TONS of problem fixed!

That link takes me to a "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you." message.
-
Yeah that was for an older code which has been removed. I beleive at the time of the post the code version was 1.30 or 1.31? We have then release offical code which is 1.32
-
OK, I figured it was something like that, just wanted to make sure.
-
Does anybody know if this shareport firmware problem occurs accross the board? I don't see anybody mention DIR-628. It seems that any firmware supports MAC has the same issue. I can't believe D-Link still has not fixed it yet. I brought a DIR-655 last week and found out about this problem so I had it refunded and now with DIR-628. I'm using firmware 1.13 and WILL NOT upgrade until I'm sure D-LINK fix the issue. >:(
-
I have this same problem with my DIR-655 (1.32NA firmware) and my HP C4280 printer. Shareport 1.1 connects for a few seconds then goes back to "available" status. Very frustrating now that I realize I can't revert to the earlier firmware. For the record, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
update: doing a hard reset (using the pinhole on the back of the router) actually seems to have fixed things for the moment. keeping my fingers crossed that this will last...
-
SHAREPORT STILL DOES NOT WORK ON DIR-655 when using firmware 1.32 NA... you must restart the router every 3 days just to connect to it.... ALSO the router doesnt last more than a week until it needs a reboot because it slows down....
im getting pretty pissed off that im literally actually thinking of reporting it to the bbb. If you look at the other forums, people have actually complained about the problems that dir-655 have.
still no fix yet... its getting annoying...
-
Just to add to the inertia - I have a DIR-655, 1.32NA, Shareport v1.1.0 R1 on a 2 desktop (wired), 3 laptop network (mixed XP/Vista 32, 2 wireless, 1 wired), with a DNS-323 and two Ximeta NDAS for storage, and DGS-1008D for the additional ports I need. I've connected a USB hub to the router USB port and connect an Epson CX4800, SanDisk CF card reader and USB harddrives to it, plus the occasional memory stick. The DIR-655 uses Jumbo Frames.
In general, it works very well but every couple of days it seems I'm having similar issues with Shareport not connecting reliably and the DIR-655 being very slow unless I reboot or power cycle the router. Often I can't get to the admin pages of either the router or the DNS-323 until I pull the plug.
While I do mind not having a stable configuration I can work around it, but it's even worse when my wife want to do something simple, such as printing or scanning. I want her to be able to rely on the system and not have to get frustrated and call me to fix the problem. ???
-
I have this problem too with all my computers not connecting in shareport. It connects for like 10 seconds and then drops.
What I've discovered is I need to turn off (unplug) the router, wait 10 secs, plug it back in and then share port works the way it's suppose to.
Dlink, please fix this problem...
-
Intresting that the latest firmware advertised on the European sites is 1.21EU dated 18/12/2008. :-\
-
Well I have firmware 1.32NA and utility 1.10 and its been a total nightmare. My vista PC used to recognize and connect to the shareport items but now while it recognizes the items as present it cannot connect. (it bounces from available to connecting then back to available). My Mac it connects (but says it fails) and won't let go of the connection going so far as to immediately reconnect after disconnecting (while still saying it failed to connect).

I feel everyone's pain here.
I am using a DIR-628 with the latest firmware (1.22) and Shareport (1.10) software.
Of course, the printer is useable for about a day, then ALL networked computer "see" the printer (Brother HL-2140 laser) but attempting to connect to it, just tries, then returns to "available" status. FRUSTRATING.
Resetting the router is a pain in the u-know-what, and not always an option.
I have teens in the house, monitored by SecureSpot for their internet time and habits. Resetting the DIR-628 results in resetting their allotted time for the internet also. Unacceptable! Plus the password on the router is not shared hence a reboot is only available through myself and I am not always available when the kids need to print.
I have tried everything and am getting frustrated. Looking at the other angry messages here, I do not see any solution.
I am tempted to sell my DIR-628 (reluctantly, but I have no choice) and get something else. Preferably with a "network addressable" USB port. Wouldn't THAT be nice?
Could SOMEONE please sort this out soon.
-
I too had the same issue w/DIR628 (122NA) and Shareport (110) however it's now been 72 hrs without a disconnect. I made one change to the Shareport Option setting, I checked "launch Shareport utility at Windows startup" never exit the program I just keep it minimized. This works fine on the main PC, I have 2 other Notebooks where I will soon make the same test but because these are portables I'm obliged to shut down so I'm not sure how this will workout.
I only disconnect from the device when I finish the application which is mostly printing (Brother HL2140 Laser and HP 4100 Multifunction) without exiting the main Shareport Utility program.
I would normally reboot the DIR628 which is a problem for others, I hope this works for all of us who are having the same connection problem.
Good Luck!

DIR-655 1.32NA firmware, 1 Desktop (wired), 2 laptops (wireless), Canon S900 printer. ALL computers: Printer will print ONE page and then about 1/10 of all following pages unless I cancel the print job & print one page at a time. I also have the limited connect time. Usually have to power down then power up router to get the printer to connect. About the same problems everybody is having. Have disconnected printer from router until solution is found. DLINK have been working on this problem since JUNE & no fix yet? (going on 4 months now)....
Thanks for your time....

i too have the dir 655 with the 1.32na firmware and the 1.10 shareport. I have a usb hdd attached, it connected 1 time only, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success. hoping for a fix soon.

DIR-655 with 1.32NA and Shareport 1.10. I have yet to get connected to my usb drive. >:(
