Title: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: sam1138 on January 05, 2014, 12:01:29 AM
I recently turned 655 in AP and I have in my closet a usb HDD 1,5 TB with his own power supply that is perfectly working with the usb pc cable connectec to each computer

I tried to connect it to the AP 655 and the front blue light confirm me the connection, I also set up the 655 page for the USB device, I installed the last SharePort version (win) 4.20 but.....

I cant access to the drive

maybe the conversion to AP block this feature?

thanks for the answer

David

Is the drive formatted NTFS?
Official drive size supported is 500Gb Max...Can you test a smaller drive size to see if that works?

thanks Furry for your support here is some answers to your questions:

- my router is REVISION A5
- firmware 1.35EU
- Italy
- wired
- yes NTFS

I for now tried a flash drive 32 gb formatted NTFS but again no results. My bro has (I think) a 400 gb usb hard drive I will try with this.

For now thanks for the time you're dedicating

What version of Shareport do you have? I've heard that v1.xx helps resolve if v4.xx doesn't work...

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Does the 655 work directly when connected to the NG router by passing the Powerline??
Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: sam1138 on January 07, 2014, 02:21:18 PM
what means "work directly" ? is not clear for me

the AP work correctly sharing folders of the main pc and sharing internet connection

I have set DLink as AP as shown in your guide

Is there a power line device in between the DIR and NG router?
Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: sam1138 on January 08, 2014, 11:19:31 AM
yes powerline actually but I'm planning to use a lan cable soon
Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: FurryNutz on January 08, 2014, 11:23:53 AM
Remove the powerline device and see if the DIR and clients connect then? If the DIR is set up well and clients connect to it, it's only being used as a pass-thru for traffic. Anything between the DIR and the NG router could cause connection loss.

when you say "remove the powerline" you mean to connect with a cable DIR and NG?

forgot:

I have assigned to DIR AP the ip 192.168.0.201 but the NG cant detect it

in explorer if I put 192.168.0.201 the admin Dlink page opens regularly

where I'm wrong??

maybe this is the MAIN question:

why NG don't assign a IP to the wired DIR ???
Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: FurryNutz on January 09, 2014, 10:59:33 AM
Does the PC detect the USB drive if you connect it directly to the DIR while the DIR is connected to the NG router?

You have to assign a IP address to the LAN side when in AP mode as the DHCP server is shut off on the 655 and so any device connected to the 655, wired or wireless will get a IP address passed thru the 655 from the NG router. So yes, you have to static assign .201 as the APs address as it's can't get a IP from the NG router in this manor.

Hi Furry and thanks

answer to your question: no the pc doesn't dectect USB drive connected to DIR (as AP) wired to NG

but last night the laptop wired to DIR has detected the USB drive connected to DIR

the second part of your message is not so clear for me (it's my fault, my english is far to be perfect)

forgive me, can you explain me again?
Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: FurryNutz on January 09, 2014, 11:27:38 AM
If your Laptop is detecting the drive when connected then something on the PC isn't correctly connecting to the DIR or the USB drive...

Your not wrong when the NG isn't detecting the 655 in AP mode since you have applied a static IP address to the 655 and the NG, I presume doesn't need to detect this. It maybe listed on a list of connected devices like D-Link routers do, however it will not appear in the DHCP Dynamic Clients list since the IP address is already assigned statically, and not dynamically.

Clear as mud?  ;D

Post by: sam1138 on January 09, 2014, 11:37:26 AM
no no no clear clear!

laptop detect drive when is wired to DIR, I start thinking that the devices that can detect the drive must be connected to DIR and not to NG.... can be?

now I will roll back with the powerline between NG and DIR and laptop wired to DIR

I want to see if NG can assign a IP to laptop

I really appreciate your support!  :D

Possible something on NG isn't letting the connections thru...

Title: Re: using DIR655 as AP - problem witn SharePort
Post by: sam1138 on January 09, 2014, 12:22:06 PM
the laptop has received regular IP from NG

difficult to investigate further I think

maybe the trick is on the NG I will try with NG support but....

they are far from you  ;D

Well you have it working when you are connected to the 655. So you know thats working. Its somehow failing going in the other direction when your connected to the NG so I presume there is something blocking it maybe on the NG.

Hope you will find out what that is. Good Luck.
