Title: Can DIR-615 be used for VPN?

I want to acess my DNS-323 NAS from outside my home over the internet and I understand I would need to establish a VPN.  Can this DIR-615 router perform that task?  Searching the manual only returns one reference to VPN -

• Advanced Firewall Features - The Web-based user interface displays a number of advanced network management features including:
• Content Filtering - Easily applied content filtering based on MAC Address, URL, and/or Domain Name.
• Filter Scheduling - These filters can be scheduled to be active on certain days or for a duration of hours or minutes.
• Secure Multiple/Concurrent Sessions - The DIR-615 can pass through VPN sessions. It supports multiple and concurrent IPSec and PPTP sessions, so users behind the DIR-615 can securely access corporate networks.

OR

Do I need to set up Virtual Server......The DIR-615 can be configured as a virtual server so that remote users accessing Web or FTP services via the public IP address can be automatically redirected to local servers in the LAN (Local Area Network).

OR do I need to  use

IPv6 in IPv4 Tunneling (Stateful).....which appears way too compplicated for me to set up

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
• Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

I don't think you need to set up a VPN rather a remote connection via Virtual Server would be all that is needed. However the above questions about your ISP and ISP modem can impact connections as well. [/list]

I believe the ISP Modem is a stand alone modem so no built in router so you should be good and in a single NAT condition with NAT being handled on the 615 which is preferred.

Same time zone here too.  ;)

The DNS-323 has an FTP server, that should provide an easy way to access your files remotely.
Web UI:  ADVANCED > FTP Server
