Title: How do we update firmware without the password to the .BIN file?
Post by: NickC on January 12, 2013, 07:50:04 AM
If I run the D-Link Powerline AV Utility (v2.03) that came with my DHP-500AV kit, when I attempt to update firmware for my devices I'm asked for PIB and NVM files. However on the D-Link UK site (http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dhp-p500av-powerline-av-500-passthrough-adapter (http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dhp-p500av-powerline-av-500-passthrough-adapter)) there is a link to some firmware (103b01) for them (ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dhp_products/dhp-p500av/DHP-P500AV_fw_revA_1_103b01_uk_en_20120912.zip (ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dhp_products/dhp-p500av/DHP-P500AV_fw_revA_1_103b01_uk_en_20120912.zip)) which is a zip that contains only a .BIN file and a .PDF that doesn't explain what to do with the .BIN file.

So what do I have to do to upgrade the firmware for these things? Just use the .BIN file? If so does anyone know which box in the utility I put it? The NVM or the PIB file box?
I also notice that the BIN file itself is actually a ZIP that contains the required files but it is password protected so I can't extract the files. Anyone know what the password is?

All very confusing and why the heck isn't this documented anywhere?!

I recommend that you phone contact DLink support and ask for help with this, ask for level 2 or higher support.

Thanks FurryNutz, I'll give that a go. Was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to tumble down that rabbit hole but you're right of course. If and when I get anywhere I will put my results up here. Thanks for the reply.
