This procedure is designed for 2-bay ShareCenter owners seeking to increase the HDD size in a RAID-1 array.
Procedure
- Make a full backup of the ShareCenter data on the RAID-1 array
- Power down the ShareCenter
- Remove the existing HDDs and label their original location with a marker (e.g. "left" and "right")
- Insert two larger capacity HDDs in the ShareCenter
- Power-up the ShareCenter and format the newly installed HDDs as a RAID-1 array using the Web UI
- Copy the data from the backup to the new RAID-1 array.
Notes:
- RAID-1 provides redundancy, but is not a backup. You should always maintain a current backup of all critical data on a separate physical device: DNS ShareCenter - Data Backup vs. Redundancy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42033.0)
- The ShareCenter series does not support RAID resizing (i.e. migrating an existing RAID-1 array to a larger HDD capacity without a full reformat
