Backup your data and then click the manual rebuild button - see if it rebuilds.

that's my problem in that I don't have a third HD large enough to back up too. However I am not sure their is an actual problem since the drive lights are both blue. I'm betting it's a software error. Does a manual re-build format the drives or do something like a defrag process?

The manual rebuild will not format your drives however it is aways a good idea to backup your data.

I had this problem - your best bet is to reinstall firmware 1.05. 1.06 is bugged.

Would you care to be more specific - what bugs have you found?  I've been running 1.06 myself, with NO problems, since it was released.

I had a number of problems which I reported in another post - http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=3533.15 - but I'll repeat them here.
The 323 would work fine initially after startup but after a while I would get part way through copying files from my PC to the DNS-323 and I would get a "network path no longer available" message. After this I would not be able to access any files on it. If I turned it off and started it up again it would be okay again. I also got pink drive lights and intermittent reporting under status that my drives needed rebuilding. Again, turn it off and back on again and all would be fine again, for a short while. I gave up trying to track the problem down and reinstalled 1.05, since when it has operated flawlessly.
One thing I am wondering though is if the UK ftp site has the wrong build of the firmware on it as it appears to say it is a 'beta' version - the filename is this..  NAS202C_DLINKEu_DNS323.1.06b65(1.55.1203.2008)(BETA)

I've now installed FW 1.06 downloaded from the US ftp site rather than the UK one. So far it is operating as expexcted, with none of the problems I had with the UK version.

Spoke too soon! Tried to copy some files across last night and got the 'domain controller' message again! Drive lights were flashing amber then pink. a restart sorted it for a short while. have reverted to 1.05 again!  >:(

				FW 1.06  US download
Go to url http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/web/version.asp
Replace x with your NAS ip address
1.06b65
1.06(1.55.1203.2008)

What hard drives are you running?
The UK firmware is not the same as the US firmware.
