Hi Everyone,
Sorry I can't find a DIR-605L forum, so I am posting here (605 and 655 are pretty close...at least share 2 digits)
I would really appreciate your help. I have spent hours looking for a solution, but I am really stuck here.
The goal is to be able to access an IP Cam at home from the internet. In order to do so I I need to do a DDNS.
Here is the system I have:
- Router DIR-605L (Hardware version: A1, Firmware: 1.11 (CN) )
- Region: China
- ISP: cable modem - the modem model is Yitong Technology YTMC-51N2-0
- Dynamic IP (I think)
I have not being able to get a "success" or "connected" status on the DDNS router page.
Here is what I have done:
Once I signed up to a DDNS account through dlinkddns.com.cn, I added a host.
The browser IP shown is something like this(using * to cross out the real number): 111.161.**.122
Then I need to enter the "New IP Address." As far as I understand, it is my external IP, which should be the browser IP shown.
So i added a new host with the browser IP. But it did not work when I try to set up the connection in my dlink roueter.
Specific questions:
1. What is my external IP?
I also tried some outside website to see what my ip is - none of them are close to the ip # shown in the dlinkddns browser IP. Worst of all, some of them gave me different ip's. (www.whatismyip.com gives different ones such as http://www.thisip.org/ and sometimes they gave the same ones...)
ipconfig /all under cmd also doesn't reveal anything helpful
2. If the confusion in IP is caused by my modem serving as a router, how do I turn it to bridge mode? There is no IP address to go to and the company's website has nothing on it. How do I know if it's this that's causing the problem?
Also all my Dlink setup is in Chinese (which I am not as familiar with) but I intend to keep it that way since it can access the dlinkddns China server which is super important. Some of the stuff that's mentioned on the forum I have a difficult time finding b/c translation issue. So if you can, please be clear on what tab to click and where to look for the info.

I have been spending an hour or so on this problem for 2 weeks straight, it's getting to a point where I am thinking about getting a different router to see if that helps (The thinking behind it is the router has too many security features that "disguise" my real IP. I know it sounds funny, but what can I do?)

ipconfig /all under cmd also doesn't reveal anything helpful You can see what your IP address is on the 605 router under Status/Device Info/WAN section. However this may only reveal the IP address comming from the private LAN from the host modem if it has a built in router.

So I guess having the modem serving as a router will really cause the described IP problem...I see an IP from the WAN section under DIR-605L setup but it is different from either the dlinkddns.com.cn "browser IP" nor the available finding ip sites that's out there.
Will see if I can get any info from the ISP/Mfr.

If there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

ISP/modem mfr was not helpful at all.
I did check - there is NO 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field.
Then I am really confused on how I can't seem to find my IP - the ip shown in WAN section is different with external sites (such as whatismyip.com) and it's totally different than the browser IP shown in dlinkddns.com.cn
Any idea of what I am missing here??
