Title: Website Blocking now stopped
Post by: marmoduke on April 09, 2010, 01:05:34 PM
Dir 655 A2  1.33NA

Recently upgraded the shareport utility to the latest version, now my "website blocking" no longer works.  I have triple checked the settings, redone the 1.33NA install and "restored" my settings to the router from my most recent backup.  No luck.  I have always had perfect website blocking until recently.  It could be shareport OR POSSIBLY THE LATEST MICROSOFT IE SECURITY UPDATES????

Perhaps the IE now is defeating the routher website blocking?  Any ideas?

Well, I got to the bottom of the problem and website blocking is working again.

The website blocking instructions tell you to not put in the http:// and to just put in the URL that you are trying to block.  Example would be, if you want to block netflix.com, you enter netflix.com and not the whole http://www.netflix.com.

THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCORRECT.

Do not enter the "dot com" when you list the sites you wish to block now.  Just enter the site name or partial name and not the prefix or suffix.  Examples of nuisance sites that I block are simply entered thusly:

spy
tracking
traffic
goggle
redirect
free
deal
rolex

You get the idea.
