I'm looking to buy Logitech SqueezeBox Duet and would like to know if it will work with my DNS-323 (FW 1.09) ?

It should.  Just don't try running Squeezebox Server on it unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Squeezebox server has grown to be the everything app for Squeezebox and does not run very efficiently on a DNS-323 anymore.
What you will want to do is point your Squeezebox Server to your music directory on your DNS or if you are running Windows add a shortcut to your dns in your local music directory.

Planning to buy a Duet too, but I don't want to run a pc with the SB server. The DNS-323 I have should be good enough to share music to the Duet by itself. Now when the DNS-323 supports add-ons, shouldn't it be possible to write an add-on that share music to the Duet?

Not much interest for this issue. To bad, my DNS-323 has served me well, but next NAS will be a Netgear.

			-
Make sure your next NAS advertises the features that you need ;)

			-
More important, I will chose a NAS that will be ready for the future and with a flexible team behind it. When I bought the DNS-323 I had no intention to us a Squeezebox. Time changes, so does services and the need for different services.

And what funds those changes? Good will? ;)
Good luck finding a product for a fixed price that does everything you will ever think of or need in the future!

Good question, who funded the features already delivered? The NAS is still in the market, new customers are paying for it.

They are paying for what's advertised on the box, not some vauge hope as to what it might do in the future.
