Unable to assign IP reservation
« on: May 01, 2017, 06:42:13 AM »

860L router, version B, firmware 2.03.B03

I'm unable to assign IP reservation after a certain amount of time. Let me explain. My home devices have trouble being recognized by manufacture apps unless an IP is reserved for a particular device. When I first bought the router, I was able to assign IP addresses. Then after a few months, I can't do it anymore. I would enable the IP reservation and type in the IP address that the device is connected on, hit save and nothing happens. So what I did was do a factory reset of the router and then it works like it should. Well, months later, got new home automation devices and I can't save again. I do not want to do a factory reset as I have more than 10 devices already hooked up.

Things I've tried:
- Roll back the firmware. Didn't work.
- Update the firmware again to the latest version. Didn't work.
- If a device is already reserved. I can reserve and unreserve and save without any issues.

I've also noticed that certain devices don't show up in connected device page even though they are connected, like webcams. I can access the webcam from the manufacture app so I know they are connected. But the device does not show in the connected device page.

There are other threads that mentioned the interface does not allow you to unreserve a device if you already powered it off because the interface only shows connected devices. That still has not been fixed in terms of providing a list of reserved devices. The old interface was much better! Never had any issues with IP reservation.

I've asked D-Link for some help on this. I saw this issue on the 890L as well. I see that D-Link as listed this model router is EOL 5/2018 of next year. So not sure what or if anything can be done. I'm hoping so. Unfortunately Rev B is not a Broadcom based router or I would have you check on some 3rd party FW.  :-\

I recommend you contact D-Link support as well on the phone and ask them about this and see if anything can be done. Other users have mentioned issues with the UI. I'll post back if I get any information.

Yes I read other people were having issues with the reserve IP as well. In fact, one person was having a similar after having a certain number of reserved IPs, he was no longer able to reserve any more IP addresses. This interface is frustrating as it doesn't show what IP addresses have been reserved. The old UI was so much better. I was able to enable and disable parental control in the same panel and that works. There's definitely a bug in there. Sadly, it's been 2 years when other users have reported this and doesn't look like dlink will do anything about it.

Ya I know. I'll ask. I would send D-Link either a support email or phone contact D-Link support and ask for escalated support and see what they say.

I also did some troubleshooting myself and here are my findings.
- I unreserved couple of devices. Rebooted the router and I still can't reserve the new device. Doesn't look like it's a limit issue.
- I did a factory setting reset and was able to reserve the IP for the new device. However, once I imported my backed up settings, same issue.
This is second time that this has happened. It does seem like after router runs for a few months, itwill refuse to reserve IP addresses. The first time it happened about 6 months ago, I had way less devices but same issue. I ended up resetting the router and reserving all the IPs one by one again. So again, it's not a total number issue.

So not sure if D-Link will fix this issue since it seems to be getting late in the develpment game.  >:(

So I found this:
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/d-link/d-link_dir-860l_b1

Something to review and consider and will help to continue use of the router. I have used this on a couple of routers, DGL-5500, and it works well. I'm using it as a wired AP for DISH Joey connected to a media bridge. Also installed this on a Linksys router as well after Linksys stopped updating FW for it. Runs way better.

Let us know what you think.
