USB 3.0 Fix guide

Thought I'd write up a post regarding fixing this issue on windows 10 64bit and forcing USB 3.0.

I take no responsibility if this screws up your settings, if you don't know how to roll back a driver or recover a damaged windows install look away now.

Step 1 : Download drivers for DWA-182
Step 2 : Extract files
Step 3 : Open folder WIN10x64
Step 4 : Edit file netrtwlanu.inf
step 5 : Locate the data entry

Step 6 : Save file

Step 7 : Disable windows 10 Device Driver Signing using these steps

Select the “Start” button.
Type “startup”.
Select “Change advanced startup settings“.
Select “Restart now” under the “Advanced startup” area.
Select “Troubleshoot“.
Select “Advanced Options“.
Select “Startup Options“.
Select “Restart“.
A menu will appear where you can press “7” on your keyboard to choose “Disable driver signing enforcement“.

Step 8 : Under device manager, locate DWA-182 adapter and follow update driver procedure using 'have disk' method, use modified inf.

Step 9 : After install, open DWA-182 properties, locate USB Switch mode, you should now see an option for Force USB 3.0. Select Force USB 3.0

Step 10 : Download program usbdeview-x64, check properties of DWA-182, if all goes well USB Version should show 3.00. Power should show 800mA

If its still showing USB 2.0, under DWA-182 adapter proprieties set Wirelss mode 802.11AC, Set Preferred Band to 5G First

Thanks for the work around write up.

I would also recommend that future users should check there PC hardware for USB 3.0 support as well. Not all PCs support USB 3.0. Most newer HW should however check with the Mfr of the PC/Laptop before attempting this procedure.

Yes that is correct, make sure you have actual usb 3.0 ports  ;D

Another interesting piece of info is in my region (NZ) the DWA-182 H/W version C1  supplied cradle only has usb 2.0 connectors  ;D.

For this fix the USB adapter is connected directly to the motherboard USB 3.0 port without the use of the supplied cradle.

Is there anything else that needs to be changed under USBSwitch.reg?

I tried this on a Realtek 8812BU that's supposed to be USB 3.0, but it didn't work as confirmed by USBdeview. I also tried removing the comment out marks on the below section called USBSwitch3.reg.

If someone can have a look at the INF code and point out what needs to be changed to force the device into USB 3.0 mode that would be a huge help.
