Title: ppp oE authentication failure FIXED on DSL-2750u
Post by: coolinx on November 28, 2012, 09:12:36 AM
I was about to open a new topic for this problem but got it resolved now after hours and hours of trying.

I setup the DSL-2750U to replace my old modem from TDM adsl here in Mozambique.

Entered all details like username/password, etc. Also used the telnet console to change the mac address into the one from the old modem (the `macaddr`  command). TDM expects a certain mac address.

I kept getting authentication failures while I knew for sure that the username/password was 100% correct. Tried everything... Tried even bridge mode using a dd-wrt device for the ppp part. That worked fine.

I found out that the mac address that the 2750 is using for the ppp authentication towards the ISP is not the local lan address. It is the local lan address +2!

So I subtracted 2 from the mac address I need to send to the ISP and ran the macaddr command with that. Connection is up now.

Hope this helps others.

Hi there, Ill explain once more:

You need to change the mac-address on the dlink to the same mac-address as the old modem. You can do that by loging into the dlink command line interface with telnet and use the macaddr command.

The problem I had was that the mac-address that the DSL interface gets is a value of 2 more than what you entered with the macaddr command. To fix this you take the mac-address from the old modem, subtract 2 and enter that value in the macaddr command via the command line interface.

Hope it is a bit more clear now.
