DNS-321 In case it can be resurrected...
« on: December 26, 2017, 12:31:47 PM »

I have a DNS-321 which appears to boot and run, but I cannot update firmware. I always get an error it wasn't valid firmware.  Also, whenever I log in, I get presented with the screen to format and setup RAID for the two hard drives.

How may I troubleshoot and perhaps bring this back to a usable device?

Thanks

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Can you format the drives and set them up? I would set them up for standard formatting and not RAID and test to see if the DNS will work.

It's not necessary to always update FW. If the DNS works as is, keep it working.  ;)

Thanks for the reply.

Hardware version says A2
I think firmware is 1.0 - I've tried updating to 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 even tried to install an aftermarket version and all give errors.  But I can log in to the box and adjust settings etc.

I tried to set up a couple drives and it acts as if it completes, but when I go to the web page of the device it shows as if the drives have NOT been configured.  All this, but I never see an error screen saying something is wrong. It just doesn't seem to actually "take"

What browser are you using? Try IE11 in compatibility mode or FF browser...

IE11 didn't make any difference.  Unit APPEARS to function, but each time I log in to it, it wants to run the Wizard again, has default password, doesnt seem too have saved any settings etc.

It correctly identifies the drives in side and seems to have them configured, but I can't save any files to it or see it on the network except to get into the web page for configuration.

Thanks for helping with it. It seems like it could have more useful life if I could get it working correctly.

I would try this, remove all drives.
Then factory reset the DNS. Use IE11 or FF and see if you can access the UI then Firmare update. Update to the latest version of FW available. Let it process.

After processing log back in and check version. Does the FW update at this point?

Post back...

Tried resetting all settings to default, logged in using admin (no password), tried updating firmware to 1.03 (latest found) and progress starts, about 10% and fails says invalid file.

I moved the firmware bin to C: and tried again. Same thing.

Tried updating to 1.01, failed same way. So the tiny PC is running, but somehow it's not saving files or updating or actually functioning.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

Only thing to check would be the power adapter tip for voltage and amps. Try to find a different PS with same values and try...

Ya seems like if the DNS isn't updating FW, something is bad.
