802.11n only & 40 mhz impossible !
« on: January 31, 2014, 07:25:11 AM »

Hi,

I have a B1 revision with first 2.06EU official firmware, then I upgraded to 2.09EU Beta 09 thinking it will solve my problems but not.

I cannot get the 2.4 Ghz wifi working in 40 Mhz channel width. My Wifi analyzer always shows 20 Mhz (130 mpbs).

Here my config:

Also my wifi analyzer shows the Mode as: 802.11b/g/n

But my config is set to use 802.11n only!! I have other router such as Netgear WN3000RP and it clearly shows 802.11n as Mode.

Damn it. Why? :s

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
FW Update Process

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF  Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-existence and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Check with your Wireless adatper, ensure drivers are up to date if any are being used. Check the settings of this adapter to ensure it supports N modes and is configured correctly for N mode operations. Refer to the Mfr support site for information on the adapter drivers and settings.

Were here to help you figure out the problem, however we need some feed back as well to get a better idea of your setup and environment. There any variables that can impact WiFi operations, configuration, environment and HW. There maybe standards however when troubleshooting, we have to narrow it down. There's no easy button for this. Sorry.

The more feedback you can give us, the better we can help you.

Many of the questions you paste don't apply at all to my problem where it more seems to be a software or DIR-825 specific problem.

Like the 802.11n mode only. Maybe it doesn't broadcast the proper info to the softwares analyzer but still use 802.11n mode only. So only people with DIR-825 and inSSIder could just confirm me that info.

How this could affect my 2.4 Ghz cordless house phones or it is related to my ISP??? Like on your questions...

At least read my problem and delete the not related questions to feel like you care about the topic. I Don't want to be rude.

I was looking for same users who got same problems as I do, and maybe know about it and fixed it by a setting specific options or firmware.

You fail to realize that we are here to help you figure this out, there some things we just can't automatically point out to where the problem is.

If you have a 2.4Ghz cordless phone near by, this can interfere with the router Wifi operation. Also having other WiFi neighbors near by.

Reason for asking about ISP modem is that some ISP modems have built in WiFi and routers, we need to establish this info for help in identifying other problems and interferences.

We haven't seen many users with similar problems. Did you do a search to find out if there was any other similar posts? http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55478.0
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=37040.0

If your not willing to let us help you, give some feed back to questions presented, maybe you should phone contact D-Link support and let them help you. Not trying to be rude either.  ::)

Something I just realized when I reboot it is in 40 Mhz, then when my macbook air is connected to it, it falls back to 20 Mhz.

I read similar cases with specific wifi air card that falls back the router to works in 20 Mhz.  ::)

Possible configuration or HW issue with the Mac Air?

Any chance you can try a different Wireless LT or Mac and see if they exhibit the same thing?

Enjoy. Be aware that WRT doesn't follow certified WiFi and Good Neighbor Policy standards.
