Title: Block Chromecast DNS on DIR-868L B1
Post by: savahu on May 31, 2015, 06:03:42 AM
I wanted to block the Chromecast's built in DNS, to be able to watch Netflix content of other countries.
Everywhere I looked I found screenshots of the A1 interface, so here's how to do this on B1.

Go to Firewall --> IPv4 Rules --> Add Rule

Source IP address range: (LAN) the network IP of the Chromecast, or the network range (default: 192.168.100.1-192.168.100.255)
Destination IP address range: (WAN) 8.8.4.4-8.8.8.8
Port range: (UDP) 53
Schedule: Always Enable

You may want to be more specific at your Source IP address range instead of global addresses, by setting an IP address reservation ON the router for the one CC, then use the one reserved IP address value to specify your Source IP address range:
Source IP address range: (LAN) the network reserved IP of the Chromecast, (reserved IP address of the CC example: 192.168.0.180-192.168.0.180)
Destination IP address range: (WAN) 8.8.4.4-8.8.8.8
Port range: (UDP) 53
Schedule: Always Enable
It would be preferred to specify the one IP address as a reservation in the rule since you are using one specific port (53) which other devices or applications may need to use. Port 53 is a common authentication port needed by other devices and applications.

Hope this will help future users.

Enjoy.  ;)
