Printer sharing
« on: July 13, 2019, 06:59:30 PM »

I have a question about the DIR-882.
Is it possible to use the USB2 to share a printer over the network?

The USB port I believe is for only USB storage device, DLNA media server, Windows File Sharing, and FTP.

Since I do not want to start new topic I am replying here. The router has two USBs and in the specification there was written the router support one USB device and also USB printer, otherwise what for it would had two USB ports? Is there a way to connect the printer then? Thanks for nay reply.

The main site only seems to report the sharing of media recourses over USB.

Nothing listed in the specs for Printer support. I think D-Link gave up USB printer support a while back on there routers

How about getting a printer server device that you can connect any USB printer to and then LAN connect the print server to the router. Just point your PCs and devices to the IP address that the print server has.

Also if your printer has a LAN port or wifi, you can connect the printer to the router using this connection method as well.

Yes I would connect my printer directly to the Wi-Fi or my computers to it but it is older printer and doesn't have that functionality. I got the 882 recently and the store I bought it from had the printer server in the specifications. Well, I can still do with having the printer connected to my pc and sharing it to other decides from there then...  Thanks for info thou!

To avoid having to share out a printer via PC, you can use print servers as an alternative:
https://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/Print/

Some retailers may put in information in there advertising which may not be correct or reflect inaccurate information on what products actually support. Always go by what the Mfr has in there description and spec's on the Mfrs web site. Also make contact with the Mfr as well.

Good Luck.
