Drunkjug,
What OSX version are you running? 10.8 by chance? I attempted the 10.8.3 update yesteray and it totally bricked my log in. Thank god I run multiple OSX partitions so I have 10.7 on a different partition. I guess I made the mistake of letting the APP store do the update when I probably should have downloaded the combo file update directly from the site. I even attempted to reload 10.8.0 over the system and it loaded however now I get the problem screen as the Mac is booting up and it stops there and never got to the log in screen. Read some information last nite that there is a problem with 10.8.3 update and possible video drivers. After doing a reload over that partition and checking the drive, repairs and checking permissions and could not get 10.8 to properly load. I wiped that partition clean. I'll be attempting a full reload of 10.8 this evening. I hope that 10.8.3 didn't now put some code on my LT that prevents it from being loaded correctly. 10.8.2 had been working very well on my 2008 model LT. All these years working with Macs, this has to be the first time something like this has happend.

Let me know what you have and let this be a warning. You might hold off on 10.8.3 update for a while.

I have 10.8.3 loaded up here at work and at home. No issues. It is always a good idea to hold off and see if there are any issues and also always a good idea to repair permissions prior to performing a update. The combo update is always a preferred method of installation as well and generally what I do.

Is it possible to wipe that partition and just re-install? Will be a headache but not any worse than trying to configure a router to accept 2 XBOX's over the course of two weeks :)

Ok, thanks for the info. Ya, I wiped it last nite after I took off what I needed. Didn't get time to try a clean install yet as BO2 took priority.  ;D

I downloaded the combo update and it's on waiting on my 3rd partition. I'll report back on what happens. I know that my LT is probably heading to the cut off for any newer OSX version support and presume that 10.8.x will be the last. Been a great Book for me though.

I've prided my self on keeping one base OS loaded and just updating each version over the top of the old on. I think that version was my old 10.4 version I had from an old G4 tower I made an image from back in 04-05'. I didn't think it would load at the time I put it on however I wanted something I had configured already so I tried it. Worked great. Thats one thing I DO so like about OSX, it's pretty flexible and you can install new OSX verions right over the top of old ones with out have to start from scratch.  ;D

One more thing, do you know if the Mountain Lion OSX file that I received from the App Store, can it be imaged to a bootable DVD? I put the file on DVD however to run it it has to be on the HDD. Was hoping there is a process to make it a bootable DVD.  ???

That is cool. It is sad for me to say that Apple as a company seems to be on the downward decline. If it isn't a iPhone or a iPad it isn't top priority and to me that sucks. Say what you will about being overpriced their computers have been solid for a very long time and I am seeing that starting to slip. Not much innovation in OS X in quite some time.

IF you are running 10.7 there really isn't much incentive to run 10.8.

Working here too hehe.

Ya, I had 10.6 for the longest time, had the best experience with it I think. I just upgraded over it with 10.7 last week. Definitely notice that older legacy apps aren't usable in 10.7 and 10.8.  :-\

Ya, I hope that I can keep my LT going for as long as possible. Not sure what I'll do after that. I see OSX headed down the same road as Windows sometimes. One thing I didn't like in 10.8 is the scroll bar is now missing or gone from the dock preview window pane. You have to use the keyboard up and down arrows to scroll thru the apps or files.  >:(  Unless there is an option to turn that back on.

I'm going to stick with 10.7 for a while. I like to test out newer stuff though. So I get to go play re-install this evening. Oh joy.  ::)

Good news, got 10.8.3 installed. Guess something on the old partition was corrupted by the App Store attempt to update. No more using APP Store for OSX updates. Use Combo Updates only from here on out.  ::)

Now I get to install the apps. hehe. Probably only going to install a few this time.  ;D

How to stop TWC ISPs Throttling Youtube

Im not sure how I feel about this. I get what they are trying to do, and its smart, but for all but the very well informed, it will just cause more problems then it helps. Thats because not all ISP's throttle, and not all that do throttle all the time. And if you reject those servers and they aren't throttling, it will make youtube even slower, or may even break it. Thats because those servers are put on the ISP backbone to decrease latency, for the sole purpose of improving Youtube performance. Thats why changing to a Non ISP DNS helps speed up Youtube, because how these servers are resolved, geotagged, loadbalanced, is all very complex. Its like using a sledge hammer to try to remove a splinter. So yea, try it, if it works for you great, but keep a eye on it, and understand it might cause issues or require upkeep.

So would using Name Bench help in this case rather then using what they reported using?

Yes I'll make a side note warning in the sticky about your concerns. Very Valid.  ;)
