Hi,

I've got a DIR-655 and am thinking of getting the DGL-4500. Just wanna know if it is worth it? The main reason why i wanna buy it is because it is a gaming router and i often play games through the net such as cod4. Is there any significant improvement in ping between the two routers while your playing a game on the net and someone else is useing it to watch videos etc... at the same time?

The only signifgant difference between the 4500 and the 655 is the additional 5ghz radio and a faster CPU.

So the gaming fuel is just a gimmick. Does it just do what qos does?

They are TONS of reviews on the web that compare the dgl-4500 to the dir-655.

Don’t see how calling the QoS feature on a gaming router “Game Fuel” a gimmick.

We streamlined it more for gaming, but you could call any feature a "gimmick" if you wanted.

A major difference is that the DGL-4500 is dual band selectable. Meaning it has both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band (only run one wireless band at a time) . The DGL-4500 also has the OLED screen which proves useful for a number of things including usage, quick access to router logs/information, and you can even check the time! (lol).

However, the 655 has support for Bsecure's SecureSpot 2.0 which is nice if you need parental control functionality or a much easier way to remotely manage your router.

hardware wise, they use SIMILAR chips. Obviously the Wireless radio's are completely based on completely different architecture.

Hope this helps!

My ping times improved below the 20 ms mark after switching my DNS servers to OpenDNS.org servers. I had just been using the Comcast DNS and they stink on ice.

Open DNS's server are AMAZING, well that and 90% of people out there are just using whatever their ISP gives them

Open Dns' DNS Server IP = 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222. Give them a try.

Hi Lycan.  Mind giving a brief explanation of this (or anyone else)?  I'm afraid I don't know a thing about Open DNS, but would like to.  Thanks in advance.

It's a 3rd part DNS server you can use for your gateway device.
