Instructions to load 1.05 firmware:

METHOD 1:
You will need a wireless computer or device with a web browser (do NOT use chrome or Edge, or use any mydlink apps):

1. Reset the camera. Put a paperclip in the reset hole, hold for about 10 seconds and release (this will remove the camera from your mydlink account).

2. Download firmware version 1.05 --> ftp://FTP2.DLINK.COM/PRODUCTS/DCS-936L/REVA/DCS-936L_REVA_FIRMWARE_v1.05.07.zip. Unzip the .BIN file (remember the location).

3. On your computer or device, make sure your IPv4 settings are set to DHCP. If you statically assigned an IP, change to dhcp.

4. Once the camera is done resetting, open the Wi-Fi settings on your computer/device and connect to the wireless network (SSID) listed on the camera label. Enter the WI-Fi password also listed. The SSID should look like DCS-936L-XXXX (XXXX is the last four characters of the DCS-936L MAC id).

5. Once you connect, open a web browser and go to http://10.255.255.1. You should now be connected to the camera's web UI.

6. The username is admin and leave the password blank.

7. Go to Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade.

8. Click Browse and select the .BIN file from step 2.

9. Click Upload. Wait about 2-3 minutes. Look for the "upgrade successful" message.

10. Once completed, close your browser and power cycle the camera. Unplug the power for about 5 seconds and then plug back in.

11. You can now setup your camera using the mydlink lite or mydlink app (or web GUI).

METHOD 2

You do not have to reset the camera for this method.

1. Change the wireless security/encryption settings on your router or access point to WPA2 (AES + TKIP). AES only is the issue with this firmware so it will not work. You can also change to WPA (TKIP). This is temporary and you may lose connectivity to your other devices.

2. Log in to the camera's web UI and follow the steps 2, 7-9 from Method 1.

3. Once completed, you can change the router settings back to WPA2 (AES only) and then press the WPS button on your router and then the camera. Wait 2 minutes and the LED on the front of the camera should be solid green.

After having a dead 936L camera for a few days, I finally found these instructions. Thank you!

Unfortunately, I get all the way through step 10 but am unable to connect. I was on the web gui in step 9 when it disconnected from the wifi connection. I have tried repeatedly to use the web app to connect the camera, but have been unsuccessful. I get to add my new password and it just stalls. A couple of times it does say the time zone has been set, but then it stalls again. Eventually it tells me  "Fail to connect to the camera. Tap [Retry] to try it again, or tap [Close] to check the settings." (or just fail to connect to the camera if using WPS).

I have tried using both WPS and typing in the network name and password. Neither one works.  >:(

After rebooting again, I also get a message telling me to make sure all cables are connected property, unplug camera to reboot, make sure modem is working, and making sure the LED is lit.

Any suggestions? The status lights are green.

Did the 1.05 downgrade take?

I would reset the camera again (paperclip in reset hole, hold until led on the back blinks red, release).  Do not open the app yet. Once the camera reboots (LED on back will start blinking amber when ready), WPS the camera to your wireless router . Once you get a solid green led on the front of the camera, launch the mydlink lite app. Make sure your device is connected to the same wi-fi network as the camera.

Then follow these steps --> http://support.dlink.ca/FAQView.aspx?f=fVwsUnAuI1sIwuIJfqbqZw%3d%3d

When you get to step 8, say YES to WPS and then just click next through the WPS setup screens. Resume with step 14.

Berley,
I was downgrading one of the cameras here and got the same exact behavior as you. I followed my steps from the last post but after I downgraded the firmware, I could not access the GUi and the app setup failed. It was strange, after 3 attempts, I reset the camera, WPS'd it to my router, and then power cycled the camera and I got into the GUI without issues. I opened mydlink lite app, remote tab, add camera, scanned the QR code on the camera, said yes to WPS (next - next- ready), message about time zone, entered a password, etc and it worked without issues. The power cycle is the key apparently SMH

GOT IT!

I have no idea if it just decided to work on its own or whether what I did actually worked, but here goes.

I let it sit for a day (after it wouldn't let me connect) and just didn't try to fix it. The lights were both green and the clicking on and off had stopped. After no replies here, I tried to connect again. But this time, I tried to connect to my LOCAL cameras instead of adding it to my network. It connected locally, and then it asked me if I wanted to add the camera to my network cameras. Said yes, and it did on the first try.

Hope that helps!

Wow so you guys are the reason I had to waste 8 hrs troubleshooting the webcam by pushing out a half baked update!
I thought there was config issues and removed the service from the mydlink web console and now it will not register the stupid camera.
Thanks man will never touch another dlink product again!

You can revert back to prior working version of FW.

Well, I've never posted to a forum before, but after about 3 hour-long sessions with Dlink phone support over the past few months to get my DCS-936L camera added back to my account (with no success), I finally found the answer here and had to say THANKS!

By rolling back to firmware 1.05, I was able to add my camera back to my account, however, my live video is now completely black when viewing thru the MyDlink apps (either one) or connecting directly via 10.255.255.1. Just prior to the rollback, the live view was working fine via 10.255.255.1. Currently, I can still access setup, maintenance, etc., but no live video at all (it says resolution is x). Black screen also when using mydlink.com. While using the phone app,  I know I'm connected because I can disable/enable the camera LED from my phone and actually watch the LED go off/on.

Before contacting support by phone, I thought I'd see if anyone had an idea or could direct me to another forum for something to try. You guys seem to know more than the folks I've talked to at support.

Did you factory reset the camera after rolling back and set up from scratch or after rolling back and adding the camera to the MDL account, re-upload the v1.06 FW, it should still be connected to the MDL account? I would try this.

How did the camera become not associated with your MDL account?

After rolling back, I did not do a factory reset. However, before I logged into this forum just now, I decided to unplug the camera for 5 secs and see what happens..... VOILA! I have video again! I'm still using the v 1.05 FW and, honestly, since everything is functioning, I'm a little hesitant to go back to the 1.06. I suppose I could, and then roll back to 1.05 again if I have problems later. Oh, and the camera was removed from my account by me. It had gone offline for some unknown reason and stayed offline for weeks (it was at my mom's house 200 miles away). I got frustrated and I thought I would be able to remove it, then add it back, and life would be great again. That was months ago. I hadn't been able to get it back on my account until now. I'm a happy camper and I think I'll celebrate with a beer!  :)

Ok, you should be ok now. Update when your ready. The update shouldn't bother the account.

Enjoy.  ;)

My new  936 came with the initial 1.02 firmware, and I can not get it to update to 1.05.  The bin file would upload to 13 % and then the inner portion of the  screen results in a message;

 " Can’t reach this page
•Make sure the web address http://192.168.0.110 is correct
•Search for this site on Bing
•Refresh the page"

The camera works with 1.02 but when uploading to 1.05 the video stream is temporarily lost but will reconnect.
I see there is a 1.06 update Beta.  Should I try that?

Is the camera connected to the main host routers wifi? If so, can you try updating the cameras FW using the mydlink app from a mobile phone if you have it installed?

Are you using a LAN wired PC connected to the router with the camera?
What browser are you using? Try IE11 or FF browsers...
Disable any PC security software or browser add-ons temporarily while upgrading the FW on the camera.
