DSR-150 severe internet speed issues
« on: April 22, 2021, 11:52:20 PM »

:( Hello, I recently upgraded my modem to an ISP modem. However, the internet speed is at an abysmal 0.2 to 6.0 mbps now.

I've tried resetting to factory as well but only for the problem to remain unchanged. Gave up after several hours and went back to my trusty DIR-615 router which of course worked with speeds of 80-95 mbps and I also made a thread about firmware help here if somebody can help me there too.

My previous modem worked with no issues with this router, however, recently I dunno if it's been the router or the modem or something in the connection to me that I would be experiencing severe internet lag issues.

I also connect the modem straight to my PC clocking in over 200 mbps but as already mentioned once this router gets connected the speed is horrible.
Any ideas?

ISP's modem: ET2251 (PDF)
Manufacturer: Technicolor
ISP: Spectrum

My region: USA (NA)
Firmware version: version 3.17

I haven't updated the hot fix for version 3.17 as I just barely saw it today after giving up on why its been causing me trouble after I was searching for firmware update to DIR-615. Also note that I don't know much about router stuff.

Also is it possible to use a different GUI for this router? It is agonizing slow. The one in DIR-615 is way better and faster and simpler. I've read over at Amazon that this router is for business? If so is this why I am having trouble? And seems VPN may not work on this router either? Lots of negative reviews I didn't see before  :'(

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks  :-X

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I would apply the hot fix, then factory reset and setup from scratch. Power OFF the ISP modem for 1 minute then back on. Complete the setup wizard.
Be sure to clear out all browser caches before entering the routers web page.
Try MS Edge or Firefox browsers.
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the DSR and ISP modem. CAT6 is recommended.
Be sure your getting good speeds with your wired PC connected directly to the ISP modem as a quick test.

I had some time to do this. I've applied the hot fix and it seemed to work, however the speeds were about 50-59 mbps compared to my other router which is the out of date DIR-615 giving 90+ mbps it's not exactly what I want.

Anyways, I followed your instructions. After I applied the hot fix I then factory reset it but for whatever reason the button on the router would not reset so I went to the slow GUI and did it there but than the speeds reverted back to its horrible state of 0.2 to 3.0 mbps.

What gives? I tried for 2 hours trying to figure out what the heck is going on!

serial 3.17B401C_WW
Firmware: TM0S102000362

The Wizard doesn't really help at all since all I can do is confirm that the option under Internet Connection Wizard has DHCP turned on (which is already set) while the rest I don't see a reason to change them. The date and time wizard has nothing for the USA time zones so I have to leave that to its default which is to London.

I tried resetting to factory settings several times and nothing. Soft reboot also doesn't help.

Can I get some help? And if it goes back to semi-normal to 50 mbps as it first was doing after the hot fix patch why is it so low compared to a much older router that's giving 90+ mbps? With my old modem the speed on this router ranged from 50-90 mbps. With the new modem as already stated above can't get it to work on this router properly while the old router is stress free.

Doesn't make any sense.    >:(

Did you power OFF the ISP modem for 30 seconds then back ON, when you factory reset the DSR?
With a wired PC connected at the modem only, do you get to spec speeds?

I had sometime to waste to do this once again and gave it 2 hours with annoying results.
So of course I did that.

Here are images I've taken to illustrate.
Using the ISP modem straight to PC. Using speedtest.net and fast.com

Using the old router DIR-615 which is working excellent!   :D

Using this DRS-150 router

How does this make any sense?  ???
How can this be resolved? I've followed your instructions 3 times and still end up with those speeds.

How can a 10 year plus router (DIR-615) be far superior to this one? And this is the business version which I think should be higher class than the regular one at least I assume. The GUI for this router is horrendously slow...

Further, for some reason I am receiving a not sure what to call it but it's kind of a lag in a sense where it would load a page but it would not be finished with it loading it but there's nothing to show that it's still loading.

Example below where it literally stayed like that for 5-9 seconds. It was not only doing it on this ISP modem but also my old modem from Netgear.

img7

Then I would get this thing which would only just trigger me.

img8

I like to know how to resolve this. Because as mentioned above briefly while it would kinda have that lag it would eventually have about the same speeds as it did on the DIR-615 on the old modem before I changed it to the newer ISP modem.

Maybe this new ISP Modem which I gave the model in my first post has issues with this router?

I just don't see any other logical reason why it would do this other than it being defective which that can't be since it was working on my old modem just not on this new one.

Can I get some help? Maybe from an engineer?   :'(

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Possible that the router is faulty and needs to be replaced.

We find that online chat or phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I've tried contacting the chat but the person there said they are unable to give support for this router because it's for business. I don't got a business I just got the wrong one and only got it because it has additional ports I needed.

I also mentioned if they business support side have a chat thing and they said no which is not good news for me as I do my thing at night time. Is this accurate? I got the business number down as well as their hours.

You'll need to call there business support then to make contact.

FYI, if you only got this router for the additional ports, you can always add more ports to any router by adding a GB LAN network switch. They come in 5 to 52 port sizes.
