Unable to see user / password box for DIR655 web log in page
« on: August 26, 2014, 02:38:58 PM »

I am unable to access my router set up via the web 192.168.0.1. I have recently changed from XP to Win 7 on my desktop and have 2 laptops connected to the wireless network. Up to 4 hours ago all was well; things have only gone wrong since I went to the dlink web access to review my settings after installing shareport on the win8.1 laptop which worked first time ;D
The page does not show the box for the user name or password, I can get to the page no problem, I'm having trouble uploading the shot but this is the link:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/101378838@N05/15044466071/

I searched the web first but found no solution, I then 'stupidly'? put the dlink install disc into the pc and all went well, it recognised my changed password which I knew and completed ok. The desktop works fine however no device can now connect to the router wireless network. I can run a hard lead from the router to the laptops and the net is there. I also get the same fault when I log into the router homepage via the laptop running 8.1 so this appears to be a Dlink / router issue. I haven't reset the router to default settings yet as I am hoping to not go down this route (no pun intended!). I have tried reloading the passwords etc but to no avail.
HW is A2 FM is V1.31
Any help much appreciated

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
  • Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Well the good news first, In the cool calm light of day I have managed to fix it, sort of :-\

I went through all the options as per FurryNutz first post to no avail. I than use my laptop running vista and IE9 and I clicked onto the router in windows network map and asked for 'view device webpage' and BINGO the correct page comes up and I'm away. To prevent any further aggro I typed in my original password and all devices reconnected onto the wireless network ;D
I then went via 192,168.0.1 and once again I got in ;D

HOWEVER when trying to go through my laptop running 8.1 + IE11 I get the old issue back and the same on my desktop.

Now this leaves me happy because I can get in but worried as to why Win7 +8.1 isn't allowing this. I know there are later FM updates available but I am from the 'if it ain't broke LEAVE IT ALONE' brigade.

What do you think FurryNutz?

Do you see same results if you use FF or Opera?

You should be able to set compatibility mode as a static for the IP address of the router in IE. If not, find and use an alternative browser to mange the router when you need to. Ya, if it's not broke, don't fix it!

I didn't try FF or opera.

I have tried both compat mode and non compat mode for all 3 OS. It has made no difference, vista will access OK on both modes.
I always used my desktop with XP to access dlink router before so never sure if vista worked before. Win 8.1 is new addition so never tried this until last night.

Does the latest FM add updates for win 7 / 8.1?

Look at the release notes and see. I know that v1.37 corrects a WiFi problem with Samsung devices only.

Try FF or Opera and test. This could be a better work around instead of loading FW.

Hi again
Haven't tried ff yet but I have tried this:

I left XP setup on my hard drive and have just booted into this and the dlink access page displays correctly so I have to put it down to the compatibility between Win7 / 8.1 and my Dlink FW.

I have had a look at the release notes and there is nothing specific to this issue but I do have an S4 so might have to update FW anyway. I will let you know the outcome :)

Please follow this for doing the update:
FW Update Process

And be sure to get the UK version of the FW file. Not from the NA region!  ::)
