Bought this wireless AC router few days ago and intend to connect its USB port to an HDD. Since I have this portable HDD (Maxtor 250GB) with power and data USB labeled on its cables, can I use DIR-880L SharePort USB ports for my HDD? I'm afraid that for some matters, it might void its warranty. Is there I need to know on the portable HDD's USB power rating, USB type 1/2, etc.? If possible, where will I connect the power and data cable, to USB 2 and USB 3 port respectively. I haven't read yet the whole manual but I assume the FAQ does not contain this item.

Does this USB drive have it's own external power adapter? Having a external power adapter for USB drives is preferred. Usually drives 250Gb and above need there own power.

It has no AC adaptor provided. Only these cables are connected to PCs.

I supposed you could connect both, one for data and one for power. I would recommend getting external power to the drive if possible. There could be router damage having the router provide extra power...run a quick test to see if it works.

Thanks for advice. I'll try it. But I'll check on the AC connection of the portable drive.
