You do know that Canon makes engines for HP printers right?

You just killed the mystique for me! (thanks!) Sad
I know. My issues relate to shoddy firmware, compatibility issues, and a clunky UI.

Just curious, what model of HP printer was it that you had this supposedly bad experience with?  ???

I believe it was the HP OfficeJet 7210 All-in-One.

EDIT:  I just checked the release date on Google, the model I had was the 6210.

Well as long as your having a good experience with what you have now, all that matters.

I'm pleased with Canon, but came close to having an "Office Space" moment with the HP printer.

I've been lucky and had good service with my HP printers.  Of course, I home office and whereas used to use it to print work stuff every day, I switched to a $50 Samsung laser.

The HP I use to send/receive faxes and occasionally scan something.  But inkjet ink is so pricey nowadays, so that's why I bought the Samsung.

I actually DID have a office space moment with my old HP printer. It would take SOOOOO long to print. The issue is I wouldn't print often, so when it would start to print..it would allign..then clean, then allign again..then prepare to print, then confirm preparation, etc. I onced timed it, 17min to print 1 page. So one day, I had to rush home from the DMV to print a copy of a bill, and I just lost it. Hit the top of it with my fist and shattered the scanning screen. Stupid I know, but you know the DMV can make even a sane person crazy. But it wasn't just that, I had issues with HP Updater eating up 99% CPU..not to mention that when you uninstall, the fast majority of the HP content stays. I once scan and found over 6000 registry keys the uninstaller did not remove, and over 2GB of storage space. Yea, I will never use a HP printer again.

Hp gives a lot of crap, I always clean install my windows. I don't need none of their junk :) Currently I am happy I got a network printer, all I do is plug it to the DGL and I open add printer and type in its IP and I am all set. Best way to do it IMO, also you can type in the printers address in the browser and control it via there pretty cool stuff.

I agree. Sometimes its not that easy. I found Windows 7 is alot better with adding printers automatically. On a XP machine though..it gets tricky. You have to do a manual IP install, then adjust the ports manually, and install a driver. And even then trying to get the scanner part to work was down near impossible.

ETA: ****Nevermind, Ping back up to 19****

Guys, what is your MTU set at?  I have Charter cable and was looking on the DSL forum where there's a tweaking/optimizing thread that gave instructions on how to find your optimum MTU.

I read somewhere else that cable should be set to 1500, however, when I run speedtest I get a 15-20 something ms ping when it's at 1500 but 5ms when I set MTU to 1472.

Am I doing this right?  Download/upload speeds seem to be a bit better with 1472 MTU but it's also early in the morning and on a weekend so internet usage is at a minimum right now.  I have the 12/1 speed plan.

Here are the instructions I followed: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793
