problematic association with APs

I have multiple APs all with the same SSID and password. roaming between them seems to work fine for all other devices in the network, but the DCH-S161 will NOT connect to another AP than the one it was paired with to begin with. So if I setup the device in my office and move it to the basement bye-bye wifi connection. Also the manual associates the button on the device with WPS pairing on page 3, but that's the only reference to WPS in the manual and the button certainly does not seem to provide any kind of WPS pairing functionality.
