Antenna Removal DIR-615
« on: April 28, 2009, 12:10:55 PM »

This may sound ignorant but I cannot get either of the antennas off my 615. They are listed as removable reverse SMA but they are so tight I am afraid of damaging it. This is my second 615 after not being able to get one of the antennas off the first. D-link said they should just unscrew but I cannot get either of them to budge. D-link support said the one I had first must have been manufactured wrong so I returned it to newegg and got a new one. Same issue. I need to have an external antenna on the unit. Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks...

The DIR-615 router antennas are usually delivered not "screwed" on to the router base unit.  Someone must have screwed them on too tight.

Hi,
I have had two of them, this is my second from Newegg. Both have the antennas on and are very tight. I tried with a covered pair of pliers and still cannot get either antenna to turn counter clockwise to remove the antenna.  I am unsure of what else to try to do...

Hardware revision C does not have removable antennas.

This has been confirmed.

Really? Why would D-Link do this? Why Would D-Link not post appropriate Specs???

This drives me insane as I like D-Link products but product pages and forums should have clear revisions of changes.. I've been asking for pics\text of different revisions for awhile now...

Well...d-link certainly falls short on this one. I spoke with their people twice and both swore the ants could be removed...never mentioned anything about rev c or not.

Dang...thanks for the help and take care...

Hi everybody,

i have a doubt, on my router it says H/W Ver.: A1   F/W Ver.: 1.00

Where do i see the REV? So i can know if the antennas are removable or not?

Thank you

He's ALIVE! Thanks for the input. Did you edit my post or did I just forget to click post the other day.

But yea, its pretty easy to see if it has removal antennas by look at it. If you see a screw like cap, their removal, if you see a plastic type ring around the base, they are not. Happen to be good with a soldering gun? Heh. j/king.

@ Echolic I think soldered. Heres a image of the board. Heads up, large file so didn't embed it. Also this is just the D1. Couldnt find any good pictures of the A1.

The manuals for both Ver A and B mentions 2 detachable antennas. The Ver C however only mentions the router as if the router and antennas are one unit. That is apparently when they started permanently attaching them. Probably just cheaper than subbing out the SMA connectors. If the area around the LED's is dark then it's an A Ver. If silver then it's B or above. I am lucky to have a Ver A and a Ver E also. Gonna have to use the Ver A for better coverage out in the yard. The detachable antenna makes it relatively easy. I have also heard of people converting the ones with non-detachable antennas. You can find instructions on the WEB. Have a good un.
