Cameras disconnecting when other cameras turned on
« on: January 19, 2016, 08:33:36 AM »

I currently have six D link cameras five are 932L I have a D link router Die 826L.  I tried to add two more D Link 932-L  but for unknown reasons when I turned either of the two  additional cameras on.. other cameras on system disconnect.  I have upgraded my modem and know that my router might need upgrading due to traffic from all the cameras. BUT  I can utilize the six cameras at once without a problem.  I can turn five of them off.. and just turn on one of the additional cameras on and it will cause the disconnect problem to occur.  So if it was too much traffic for router.. why would the route handle six at one time easily but not even two with one of the "problem" cameras on.....it seems as if someway each of these cameras are interfering with the signal from the others.  they are all in a level house with two being in outside garage.  The two disconnecting are the two closest to router and it does not matter where the two "problem" cameras are turned on-the same two cameras will disconnect.  I had six cameras on for six hours yesterday. Came home turned all off but one in house.. turned on one of the "problem cameras" and within five minutes the house camera disconnected.. video stream lost.  All are on different passwords.

Each the the additional cameras disconnect different established cameras.   The service tech said to buy a different D-Link router of course the $$ one. I am willing to do this but why can current router handle six... but not even two with one of additional "problem" cameras on.  Both had been reset to factory setting twice, all systems are updated.  Any thoughts?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What FW version is loaded on the DIR-826L?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  Link> >FW Update Process

What wireless modes are you using on the router?
What is the distance between the Cameras and the main host router?

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com

I have a DIR-826L online currently however I only have 1 camera. I do have other devices online on the 2.4Ghz radio so I know it works well with everything I have connected. Maybe possible that the bandwidth could be a factor for the cameras and the router.

You might set a reservation on the routers for the cameras.
What Firmware version is currently loaded on the router?
What wireless modes are you using on the router? Mixed? G and N?
What security mode are you using on the router? Mixed or WPA2 Personal only? AES only?

I have no idea about some of what you are asking... I guess I will just trash the two cameras that don't work.  I have six on right now and working find. I cannot even turn either of the two on even with just one other camera.. it disconnects.    I have been happy with d link to now.. but since I cannot get this problem solved other than to be told new router without explanation of why cameras won't even work with one other camera.. I will not be adding another d link product.  I looked for info on router and could not find it.  I thought the cameras should work easily. I am not a computer guru and do not know all the in and outs of setting up. The other cameras set up easily.  Along with the router and my new modem.  I am so frustrated as I just need the two more cameras to make my system complete.

Either this is a configuration issue or a faulty unit. I recommend swapping out cameras to see if the problem follows.
The information I presented is to help us help you and so we can get a better idea of your system. Trying to help you is all.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email. Please refer to this thread for information for them.

Yes I appreciate your help.  I just am not that set up savy.  I have spent hours on phone with support. The last person said until I get new router they cannot help me. Said new router would solve all problems.  They did not explain why only two cameras could cause problem with router.Said there was too many cameras streaming.  I could not communicate to the gentleman that it did it with only two cameras on if one of the problem cameras were on.. and when the problem two were off the other six worked fine.  One camera disconnects house camera the other camera disconnects the back sunroom camera.  OR the problem cameras disconnect and the other camera stays on.  Both are static IP and the two problem cameras are dynamic.  I have been through setting static IP, taking the IP back to dynamic, resetting all cameras.. etc and problem continues.  thank you for your help.  the cameras that disconnect are all within 50 feet and the closest to the router.

Possible the only thing you might need is another wireless AP in addition to the 826L. Since you have 6 cameras and all are on the 2.4Ghz radio, they are taking up bandwidth which the router maybe hitting it's limit. I would try another wireless AP to off load 3 cameras if not more. This would probably help alleviate the issue.

Do all the cameras have a different mac id? Just checking.

When you set up ip addressees, did you use what the router had initially chosen?

Turn off all cameras, and see where the problem camera gets allocated to. It's it the same as one of the other 4?

I've seen complaints else where with same model cell phones having trouble on same network 2.4ghz. (Gs4 Galaxy).
