802.1Q Vlan Tagging compatibility for 868-L router
« on: May 11, 2014, 04:54:37 AM »

Hi,

I own this 868-L router, and recently changed my internet service provider. Now, I'm using Movistar (spain) fiber optic internet service (100/10 Mbps), and this service provider uses different VLAN's for internet and for television service (VLAN id's 2 and 6).

With the current software of the router I can't use multiple VLan tagging so now the 868-L router is nearly useless in my case (I can use it only as an AP, but doing it is like having a Porsche and only using it for going buy bread  :-[ )

Will 802.1q be implemented in this router? Is it planned for a not far firmw release?

Thanks!

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

Funny analogy sir.  ;D

I would expect that any VLAN tagging is a different layer of networking support not normally seen at the home or small business level. D-Link designs the DIR series class routers to be for home and small business use. VLAN tagging is seen more on the bigger business class routers and environments. I would presume that D-link would not be implementing this 802.1q feature on any home class routers. If you are using this DIR series in a business class environment, then you may need to look at using a better suited class router in this environment that may have this feature. I would review the DSR series class of routers. Also maybe a external network Switch capable of handling VLANS could work however I presume the main issue maybe between the ISP and the router which it doesn't support.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Please let us know what you find out.

Good Luck.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I have contacted right now with my regional contact center, and surprisingly I was the first person complaining by phone about this lack of compatibility with my internet service! Movistar is the biggest internet provided here in Spain and my connection is their main product...

They told me that were going to investigate in the Korean ftp, but I dont have high expectatives on this...

By the way, this is a domestic connection, not bussiness... ;-)

If they reply me with any news, I will keep you informed

Bye  :-[

Hi, since I have no notices from support team, I am investigating on how to use some of the functions of the router, such as share port utility, via app or the mydlink portal.

My question is, is there any way to set static routes over the LAN, and not over the WAN? I'm using the D-Link  as an AP only connecting it to another router (by a LAN port), so I would like to tell the D-Link the way out to internet via this LAN route...which is supported in many other cheap routers but surprisingly in this 868-L not...

I believe D-Link doesn't support the LAN routing and is reserved on higher end or business class routers. From what I'm told. The DIR series of routers is a home class router, at least for D-Link models. I would ask D-Link support which model router they have that supports LAN to LAN routing. There isn't much call for LAN to LAN routing on home class routers for most home users which I presume why D-Link doesn't support it.
