They used to be quite good with the community...then for some reason, they seemed to fade away.

Your opinion will be shared with others based on your experiences.  Those people will then be less likely to buy from d-link.

Companies should never forget the old adage:  A happy customer will share their experience with 1 other person.  An Unhappy customer will share their experience with 10 other people.

The customer's perception is their reality.

Yeah!  They seem to "purposely" make the routers to fail so that we are forced to buy another unit.

I gave up and have just bought a new Linksys WTR610N router.

set up really easy. Only hassle is that their router defaults to 192.168.1.1 and I had to do a bit of drive re-mapping and config on my NAS.

The Linksys has not missed a beat in the 3 day since I have had it. No drop-outs of wireless, no overheating, no resets when it is put under load and reception and signed strength is the same as the Dlink unit. Not much to change in the way of config settings - but the unit works as it is supposed to! I guess the use the KISS principle in router design....

I really tried everyting but the unit just is not stable. The new firmware made things a bit better but not stable enough for me.

Never again Dlink!

Bye.....

Yea, Well I haveto admit that Linksys Routers initially went down hill after Cisco bought them . I only purchased linksys products before that but the bad quality is what forced me to come to D-Link and I liked what I saw.  Then all of a sudden D-Link followed Linksys down the same toilet .  (Perhaps they were making their products in the same Chinese factory). Only difference is that Cisco has really turned the Linksys products around in the past two years, they seem to be extreamly reliable now. Maybe not 5 9's but pretty damn close.

I come back to this forum from time to time to see if anyone decided to actually do their jobs but I am never surprised. But its always good for a laugh.  Obviously D-Link needs to clean house and actually hire people who know what they are doing instead of outsourceing the design and manufactrureing then having the support personel (the only oines who speak english) clueless and bitter.

Well we all can be tired of the way d-link communicates with their customers and the
way their support works. But we do have some good things to look at.
First of all the latest 1.23ww firmware works the way the router should work, at least at my
place it does everything it promised. Secondly altough d-link says nothing about it trough the support-person
i talked to, the dir-855 is going to get an ip-v6 compatible firmware. Alltough it all goes slow we will get it
period. So let's all keep the pressure up, the sooner we will get it. The problem lies in asia where the work and communication ethics are different then we are used too compared to western companies. Mark my words in the end we will end up with a near perfect router witch will go on for years!

Agreed!! 1.23WW firmware is solid as a rock. I am using it since July 4th no issues. Only functionality missing is IPv6 support. I am hoping that you are right and we can all enjoy full IPv6 support in our DIR-855

And it's still missing... This blows. Hey, DLink! WAKE UP! The world is moving on and changing. And the DIR-855 is not _that_ old to completely drop support for it already.  >:( Now go and fix us some IPv6 support. ****TO!  ;D

[edit]
You've got to be kidding me... PRONTO is "bleeped" to: ****TO  :D

I highly doubt that anyone at Dlink will listen to you with this tone. You might try posting your concerns in a more respectful manor and someone might respond to you. As for IPv6, if you need IPv6, there are other DLink routers that support it if you need such an option. Why don't you switch to a router that has that option if you really need it.
