Connecting DSL modem from 1483 MER to 1483 Bridge
« on: November 01, 2018, 05:23:37 PM »

Good day

Sorry for my ignorance but I can't get my DIR-880L connected to the Internet when our provider changed the modem from PPOE to 1483 MER.  The old modem was set to bridge mode but when I changed the new modem to 1483 Bridge with its DHCP released, DIR-880L is set to router/dynamic IP (DHCP) with emulated MAC setting.   Once connected and getting all the assigned IP address, etc, DIR-880L will disconnect afterwards.  Or DIR-880L can't really use MER connection?

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router

Try the modem in router mode and the 880L in the modems DMZ if it has this feature...

Sorry for the late reply.  See my inline response below:

>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
Firmware is 1.20B01 for A1 hardware

>What region are you located?
Southeast Asia

>Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
>What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
DSL

>What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Baudtec rn243r4

>Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
Dynamic WAN IP

>Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
Checking from ping unfragmented is 1492

>For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
Not applicable

>If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and >How NAT Works. >Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router
The reason I want to bridge the DSL modem is to avoid the double NAT.  How can I confirm if bridge mode is working where there is no WAN IP?  I've disabled the DCHP server mode of DSL modem so I can't check its admin UI unless I make my LAN connected PC to static  IP with the same subnet.

>Try the modem in router mode and the 880L in the modems DMZ if it has this feature...
If I do this, modem will become 1483MER, not 1483 bridge mode?

I would contact the ISP or Mfr of the modem and get help and information regarding bridge mode.

I know that once any modem router combo is placed in bridge mode, the UI features of the modem will no longer become accessible in some cases. The only thing that the modem in bridge mode should be doing is passing thru the public IP address from your ISP to the connected PC or connected external router such as the DIR-880L.

Thanks for the response.  As you suggested, I'll confirm this setting to our local ISP.

By the way, although this might be posted in other threads of DIR-880L, the unit does not appear anymore in mydlink+ or lite, with the IP camera and NAS are only displayed.  Is it due to firmware update to 1.20b03 or the mobile app version update?  Tried also using (IE) browser access and this also does not display the WiFi router anymore.  Am I missing something?

I don't know. I haven't checking mine lately. Could be something in FW. When was the last you you saw the router in the apps?

Last time I saw it was August 2018.  mydlink+ and lite had been upgraded I think since then so I'm not sure which caused it.  Like the new mydlink app wherein some DCS camera's are not displayed (2136L, 1130L), it's probably the porting to new app which might also have something to do with it.

Was told the 880L should be working in the app.

I will have to check if they did indeed remove the router(s) from the mydlink back-end. I know a lot of "maintenance" has been done this last 6 weeks. Possibly one of them killed it.

nettewurk, if you go to mydlink.com and log in, does your router show up there?

The new mydlink app will NOT support mydlink routers. Unfortunately all mydlink routers are now discontinued and there are no plans for new models.

Furry, does your 880L show up if you change it back to router mode?  I do not have one to test.  :-\

Sorry for the delay on this. I got my 880L out today and got it online. After re-associating it with my MDL account, mydlink Lite and mydlink.com saw the 880L and is accessible. v1.20 FW is loaded on it.

Thanks for all the feedback and apology for the delay of my response.

As for the mydlink.com, it is not showing my 880L.  I also have the FW ver. 1.20.  Is there a setting my router's setring not to display it?  That is odd why mine is not showing since then.  It is unfortunate that mydlink routers and cameras might not be supported in the future.  Even outdated model, it should continue the services.  That is my concern why 1130L and 2136L are not supported in the new app....

Once the router is associated with the MDL account you have with D-Link, it should be connected to it and show up in the MDL services web page and app.
