Samsung TV
« on: March 20, 2012, 06:33:39 AM »

hi,

does anybody have a Samsung TV (ue40d5520) connected wirelessly to a D-link dir-615, (Virgin Media)?
Having various problems, driving me crazy!

Sometimes connects and works just fine, hours later it wont even find the router, then in might connect to router but not internet, sometimes says cannot connect due to network inteference... Got a decent signal strength, changed router to channel 11 to stop some interference with others in the neighbourhood.
My laptop and phone connect to the router fine every time.

Wondered if anyone could detail their settings so i can replicate them?

Many thanks

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

hi

not had much time at home at all recently.
But I did start by doing a reset of the router and re-set up using the cd.
Seems to be working at the moment, but not convinced it will stay that way!

i will try the suggestions if/when it stops working.
a question though - is there any way a desktop pc hard wired to the router could block wireless  router traffic/connection? didnt know if windows firewall was causing problems. sure it seems to be cropping up more when desktop is swiched on.

and one other question... the router is 'n', the tv dongle is 'n', laptop will be 'g' i guess and don't know what phone wifi speed is. whilst my laptop is using the wireless signal would my tv be limited to the 'g' speed too?

cheers

Possible that 3rd party firewall could impact the router. I usually recommend to people to turn off ALL firewalls on client PCs as the routers FW works well and there is no need for a 2nd one and can cause connection issues later on.

It's possible the router will fall back to G mode while working on N mode if you the G device is connected. Only way to test this out is to look at the Status/Wireless section on the router while you have the N device connected, then connect the G mode device and see. Keep us posted.
