DIR655 B1 router - DIR655 A4 ap internet problem
« on: March 13, 2014, 03:26:58 AM »

hi friends!!

yesterday I wasted more than 3 hours for having nothing!

from the beginning

1 - connected a DSL 320B directly to pc and I configured internet connection ... and It worked ! (I can surf internet)
2 - I connected to main router (DIR 655 rev B1 fw 2.06) and I got all blue lights steady and on the other side all green lights steady on 320B
3 - the cable goes after from DIR655 b1 to a 8 port switch TP-Link and from here to the DIR655 a4 (access point - second floor); the pc is cable connected to the DIR655 AP

from pc I see no errors on internet connections; also from the router config page I see that I have internet connection running; I can open all the devices connected to the lan but....

but.. If I try to surf internet I cant !! the pages start loading but nothing ...

can please someone give me the key of this maze??  :(

many many thanks!

David - Italy

Link>Welcome!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem and if modem can't be bridged. If so, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

I would directly connect a LAN wired PC to the back of the router, by passing the switch to rule out any switch interferences...

Hi Furry

very happy to hear you again!! :D

tonight I will try to connect a laptop directly to DIR655b1 to see what happens (in this way I will "cut out" the switch and the 655 AP) and I will come back here to report results

second question: where can I find session for DSL 2770 modem/router?

many thanks Furry!

Ensure your AP and main host router WiFi channels are different, I recommend a higher open channel on the Rev B and channel 1 on the AP if that channel is open.

session for DSL 2770? A forum thread?  ???

change wi fi channels also if the wi-fi is turned off?

about DSL2770 I have a problem with "virtual server" I have a ticket open with DLink support but for now no luck

in practice "virtual server" is present but not working (I cant access from remote to my ip cam and nvr)

this is the reason I set up the DIR655b1 while they solve problem with DSL2770....

I didn't know the WiFi was disabled on the Rev B.  ::)

Post here for all DSL modem issues:

I'd do a factory reset of the AP and set it up again.

Ensure cabling is good between the router and AP.

Connect the AP directly to the main host router and test there...

connected directly ap and main router works!

so the guilty can be

1 - short shielded cable from router to tp-link switch (8 port gigabit)
2 - tp-link switch
3 - long (10 meters) shielded cable from switch to ap

where do you bet??  ;D  ;D

hi Furry

again problems

changed short cable with one tested

I also tested the long cable

I tried also to cut out the tp-link switch but when I put ap in the second floor again I have icon of internet connection but pages don't come out

to say all: after few sec of connection it worked but after stopped

if I put the 2 dir655 near on the same floor (like in this moment) It all works correctly

for me is time to surrender.... any ideas??

the long cable is cat 5e shielded and the switch is gigabit

do you think I need cat 6 cable??
