Just wondering if a can access the NAS from the Internet??  Not the FTP but the actual files on it.

There is no 'web' access available via HTTP. Only FTP access is available.

If you access the FTP, you can access the files!  That's what FTP is for. :)

VPN might be what you are looking for, the most practical and economical approach might be using a router with built in PPTP server, like any router supported by DD-WRT firmware.
