Slow Upload speed to external drive
« on: December 15, 2018, 04:59:01 AM »

Hi everybody,

I'am expereincing speed issue, when I upoad files to external drive.
I have drive HD My passport connected to USB 3.0. port. Download speed is more than 60MB/s but upload speed is arround 6 to 7MB/s.

I allready tried with different external drive and get similiar result. Upload speed was in both cases around 7MB/s.

Does anybody know what slows uploud speed?

Model Name: DIR-882
Hardware Version: A1
Firmware Version: 1.11

  • What region are you located?

What is the size of this USB drive? Does it have it's own power supply?

Hi,

I am from Slovenia, Europa.

I tried two external drives with and without power supply, same results.

1TB, USB 2.0. own power supply.
4TB, USB .3.0. without additional power supply.

Can you try a 4Tb drive with a power supply?
What happens if you test with a different PC?

4Tb drive doesn't have plug for additional power supply.

I tried on 2 PC's, similar results.

It is a big difference between download and upload speed.

Download speed on both discs is different but upload speed is the same on both discs regardless one is usb 2.0. and the other is 3.0. And one is plug in usb 2.0. and the other in usb 3.0.

Looks like upload limitation ??

Ya seems to be a problem here.
I'll pass this on to D-Link for review.

Hi!

I'm jumping on this.

Just bought a DIR-882 and connected a brand new externally powerted 4TB drive. No matter how I do, I can't get more than 7MB/S write speed to the drive. As the original poster mentioned, read speeds are about 60MB/s. It would take weeks just to fill drive..

Seeing the first post was over a year ago, are there any news about this or is it simply a technical limitation?

I've had this issue for the last year. No matter what drive is plugged into the USB 3.0 port, the transfer rate is horrible.

I heard it's because of the lower amount of RAM in the router. Due to that, the transfer rate is throttled for write speed. Not sure how valid that is.

However, there are times that I get 27 mb/s but that's once in a blue moon. Non dependent on who else is on the network.

Ok, I'll bite. What is the OS you guys are using when accessing the USB drive.
How are you accessing the drive? Map drive in Explorer? What path are you using?
What model drives and sizes are you using? I have a 1.5Tb USB 3.0 drive with power adapter here. NTFS if I remember correctly.
I noticed mine doesn't appear in the Network/Computer however it appears as a media device under Network/Media Devices in Windows.

Windows 10. File Explorer is what I use.

Recently, the file transfer is really slow (Since last Firmware update)

Windows 10 Home? Pro? Enterprise edition?

Windows 10 Home
Yes, through Explorer.

Sadly, I've had the same setup with a different manufacturers router and speeds were much higher.

Same USB 3.0 Seagate Slim BackupPlus 1.5 TB drive as well.
