DHCP Reservation for Bridged Device
« on: January 18, 2016, 02:08:01 PM »

Good afternoon everyone,

I have this router and have recently added a wireless printer to the network. Due to a bug/glitch with the printer (it goes to sleep and then I can't print anymore - apparently a Mac only issue) I've had to disable the printers on board wireless card and use a TP Link TL-WR702N wireless bridge to get it on the network. I've been advised that to prevent further issues with a flaky-but-very-cheap printer (Brother DCPL2540DW) I've been advised to reserve its address under DHCP.

When I was using the built in wireless card this was very easy - go under wireless clients, click the pencil, reserve the address. However using the bridge the printer does not show up as a wireless client - only the bridge does. The IP address claimed by the printer doesn't show anywhere under wireless clients at all.

Printer works great, but I would like to reserve its address on the routers DHCP table....I just can't figure out how.

Advice?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Since you have disabled the wireless on the printer and connected it to a External wireless bridge, I presume in the configuration, the bridge becomes the IP address of the printer  and masks the IP address of the printer, and thus you would or could reserve the IP address here for the wireless bridge on the router and set up your PCs to print to the bridge.

I recommend you look into the Mfr support help and information on this wireless bridge to see what is the expected operation for the wireless bridge.
