5009 is only device on my network that won't reconnect
« on: April 29, 2018, 10:48:43 AM »

Is there a setting in the management screens for the 5009 that tells the camera to try to reconnect if a network drops?  I just installed a new router, had to take things offline and back on a number of times -- and every other device (Swann and another DLink camera, Brother printer, etc.) -- reconnected to the network after it was back up.  Not the 5009.  Had to power it down and back up again each time.  PITA.  Is there a setting I can adjust?

Try setting up a static IP addresss ON the camera instead of using a DHCP IP address. Set the routers IP pool for 192.168.100 to .200.
Then you use use any IP address out side of this pool for static IPs set ON devices. You can use 192.168.0.1 of course.

Thanks - already have been doing that.  All devices that are connected most of the time (not sporadically, like our phones and laptops and televisions) are on static IPs.  And anything I may want to connect to from outside my network is on static.  So the 5009 is and has been on a static IP.

Might try a factory reset then set up from scratch again with the new router and see.

I - somehow, after this - got the 5009 back up and running, and it ran well for some time.

Now I'm wondering if I've hit "end of life" on this camera.  Do they just die, eventually?

I noticed it not connected, again, and tried everything I could think of BESIDES the factory reset.  Then I saw a relatively new Firmware, so I installed that AND did the factory reset and a manual reconfiguration (including a fixed IP address on the camera, in the range of my non-DHCP ip numbers, on my network).

It simply won't reconnect.  It seems to TRY - the blue and red LEDs come on together briefly, but then I'm left with a steady red.  I usually only have time to post here when I'm away from the camera, so I'm not sure this is still true, but I could see the camera's internal network on my iPhone, the other day -- but I don't know what the password is to join that network, so I couldn't do anything with it.

Is it possible the wifi radio (is it a radio?) has died?    Where can I see what the LED indicators  mean?

thanks for being here!

Can you access the cameras web page with the camera wire connected to your network using the IP address given by the router?
Does it show up on the routers connected clients list when wire connected to the router?

Download the user manual and it will tell you what the LED colors mean.

Where is the camera positioned?

How far away from your wireless router is it?

If you move the camera closer to your router, do you see the same issues?

Like any electronic device, unfortunately they can degrade and die overtime. Dust, heat, cold, etc can cause issues. A lot of people put their indoor cameras (me included) in a window sill between the glass and blinds/curtains. When the sun hits it, it can get extremely hot and affect performance and the life of the camera. Or users will put their indoor cameras outside where there is more of a temperature change, humidity, condensation, etc which will affect the life of the camera.

I did access the camera web page when wired to my router last night -- that's when I got it going after first discovering it "down," and it did show as connected.  Then, this morning, it was down again, and I'm not home to try connecting again.  This is why I think the camera's wifi may be going -- no apparent reason for it to stop being accessible.

One of the things I did when reconfiguring it last night was move it, to within 8' of my main router.  That's where it sat last night, and where I discovered it no longer connected this morning.  The camera has been mounted above a door frame, on the inside wall of a bedroom, for about the past year, so being in a window is not a problem.

There seems to be no clear reason for the failure to connect.  It will connect, and then will stop connecting, for no apparent reason.  I thought the firmware upgrade last night was what made it usable again but, since that didn't last, the temporary recovery of it yesterday evening must have been a fluke.

Disappointing.  It MOSTLY works -- it just seems to not want to "wifi" anymore.

Check to see if you move it farther out from the router and see if it remains connected. If not, I presume the wifi maybe going out on it.  :-\

What is the brand/model router is the camera connecting to?

Are there any issues when connected with an ethernet cable? Just when you unplug the cable (wifi)?

If that is the case, turn off Smart Connect and see if the connectivity is better.

Yes, DIR-882, and have never used Smart Connect, preferring manual control, when I can.  It started far from my DIR-882, and I moved it closer.  Direct connect seems to work fine - Wifi just won't stay on/connected.

Any other troubleshooting tips, I'd love to try 'em.  I really don't want to have to buy another cam.

It has - once again and inexplicably - started working again.  After a night sitting right next to the primary router, we moved it about 8' feet away.  Saw it was working, left it there all day.  I just moved it back to its original location, and it's connected both via the in-home wifi and my external ddns service and to my iPhone.

It just takes a vacation now and then, it seems.
