Author Topic: Unable to connect together two DAP-1665 HW Rev B in Bridge Mode on 5GHz Band  (Read 11287 times)

Hi all

I own two DAP-1665 HW Rev A AccessPoints. Those two APs are connected together in Bridge Mode on 5GHz Band - everything works very fine, up to 200MBits. Today, i received another two DAP-1665 but HW Rev B. I saw they have a totally new WebGUI - it looks nice so far, but i'm not able to connect those two APs together on 5GHz Band.

Everythings works as expected with 2,4GHz Band (only around~50MBit/s) -- if i try to switch to 5GHz the connection can not be established.

I remember: On the older HW Rev A i saw for 2,4GHz and 5GHz the AP had two different MAC Adresses, i remember i had to configure both addresses (for 2,4GHz and 5GHz) on each box to be able to connect them together. Now on the HW Rev B i can not find the MAC Address of 2,4 and 5GHz Band.

The MAC Address, that is working on 2,4GHz Band and that i use, is the MAC Address of the Network Interface, which is not the same behaviour like on HW Rev A, but OK. On the backside of Box itself, next to the serial number, there is (only) the MAC address of the Network Interface labeled as well. arp -a is also showing only the MAC address of the Network Interface. So i expect on the HW Rev B, there is only one MAC address required to connect them together in Bridge Mode. If this assumption is corrent - then i'm pretty sure this is a broken function - or let's call it a BUG. If my assumption is wrong, then the question is: Where can i find the MAC address of the 5 GHz Band?

What i've already tried:

I've downloaded the latest (the only one) firmware from: http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DAP-1665
The website is saying that it is version 2.00B19 from 03/31/17. I have (re-)installed the BIN file but the system is still telling me:

Current Firmware Version:   2.00, Thu 23 Feb 2017
Current Firmware Date:   2017-02-23 18:24:00
DAP-1665 HW:B1 FW:2.00

I expect here some missmatches between the informations on the website and the displayed version after it was installed.

I tried to read trough the manuals, but everything i can find on the web and the support-page is related the HW RevA - so all screenshots and how-to's i could find did not apply to the WebGUI that is available on the HW Rev. B.

The goal is to take profit from the faster 5GHz connection - i do not want to use the old and slower 2.4GHz Band, that's why i use those boxes and HW RevA does a very good job on that.

Did someone made the same experience? Do i miss something? Does someone have an additional idea what to try?

Best regards
Tom

Btw: I tried to call D-Link in the US because it was late local time. They refused to answer my questions because i'm from europe. I will call the local support tomorrow and will raise a support ticket. I let you know about the progress.
