DNS-320L - Firmware v1.06b04 ?
« on: February 07, 2016, 10:50:05 AM »

Hello,

today, looking for add-ons, I've seen a 1.06b04 firmware release (http://dlink.vtverdohleb.org.ua/Add-On/list.php)

DLINK_DNS320L(LW).1.06b04(3.07.0930.2015)

but I can't find anywhere information about that. I only read about the 1.06b03 release.

Besides, I downloades it, tried to upgrade my box with it, the file is uploaded and then I see the multicolor circle and ... nothing more, it keeps so forever.

Any idea?

Thanks

As far as I know the Ukraine site is not an official D-Link site.  Anything you get from there is at your own risk.

As far as I and my company are concerned anything on that site is suspect until they can prove otherwise.

You can have a look at the official dlink ftp sites:
ftp://ftp.dlink.eu/Products/dns/dns-320l/driver_software/
http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/NAS/DNS-320L/Firmware/
The RU site has a 1.06b4 FW so get it from there  http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/NAS/DNS-320L/Firmware/DLINK_DNS320L(LW).1.06b04.rar
I can see a new FW 1.07b4 on the EU site ftp://ftp.dlink.eu/Products/dns/dns-320l/driver_software/DNS-320L_fw_revA3_1-07b04_all_multi_20151019.zip
On the UK site they have as latest 1.06b3 http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/share/network-attached-storage/dns-320l-sharecenter-2-bay-cloud-storage-enclosure#

Now whether or not we should trust add-ons and files hosted by vtverdohleb in a UA site, that's another issue :)
I've been downloading add-ons from http://dlink.vtverdohleb.org.ua/Add-On/list.php without problems so far and I trust him.

The problem is with D-link because they should have someone (engineer/software programmer) allocated to the development of new FW and add-ons
instead of us relying on a single user to provide us with extra functionality for our NAS ;)

FYI, it's advised to use only official FW from your regional D-Link web sites only for support reasons. Each region handles there own development with in D-Link so users should keep to there own regions unless WW or World  Wide is specified.

If users are experiencing problems with 3rd party or non official D-Link FW or Plug-ins, you are advised from a forum stance to remove the offending plug-in(s) and 3rd party or non official FW and use official D-Link supported FW to troubleshoot the problem.

I've asked D-Link USA to review vtverdohleb's web site and development to see what the official stance is regarding his project. Last I hear that he was no longer going to develop plug-ins and gave no reasons why so plug-ins may have been a limited time run for him and I don't know what will happen after this and the future of it, and I may not get any word on it. Users should contact there regional D-Link support office on the phone and inquire with in and let them know if your concerns regarding the plug-ins.

I did not say that to completely abandon the creation of add-ons. I made a new version of SSHd, BitTorrent & Plex after 2016.01.01. To my regret create addons often as before, I do not have time :(
I create add-ons since 2012 and, in my opinion, never gave reason to doubt my loyalty to the D-Link NAS. I fully agree and does not pretend to be "officially" my addons.
Firmware for NAS I posted only for the convenience of users on the site. Certainly I recommend all users to take only the firmware on the official websites D-Link for your region!
But if D-Link will forbid me to publish in this forum announcements of its add-ons - it will only worsen the ratio of users to D-Link NAS.

Thank you for posting.

Were not here to disallow anything. Feedback comes from problems being seen with some plug-ins and for support reasons, may not be officially supported if they are causing problems. I presume your plug-ins are good and well worth using and a great addition to any user for D-Links NAS products.

We just want to make sure that the user experience is good and not a cause for problems thus "only worsen the ratio of users to D-Link NAS." as well  ::) . I presume D-Link and it's customers have benefited greatly from your hard work. I hope D-Link will continue to support them were needed. I think we just need some clarification on what is and where support boundaries come into play is all.

I recommend and refer all plug-in posts to you and the NAS apps forum thread so you and others can review and respond appropriately to each one.

User and I presume, that D-Link appreciates any and all effort you do for everyone.  ;)

I wish to add my two-penneth

It seems vtverdohleb has been lambasted indiscriminately for sharing firmware that is readily available from several sources by simply searching.

What vtverdohleb does regarding creating addons ensures that DLink NAS owners have a better option, choice and functionality of the NAS and without these addons and the hard work and commitment from vtverdohleb I'm almost certain the sales and/or ownership would be severely reduced.

vtverdohleb deserves recognition and appreciation.

The main problem is caused by DLink and it's programmers in that they created different firmware versions for different parts of the world.  Why can't they have one worldwide version with language packs?

What needs to be clarified and I'm certain vtverdohleb can make "warning" notes on his firmware list is that firmware is country specific and should, in all instances, be downloaded from the mydlink site/account that you registered your device.

Big respect to vtverdohleb without him my 320L would have been returned for full refund or thrown out the window.

I agree that vtverdohleb should be appreciated, perhaps D-Link should consider hiring him to create official add-ons full time.
The fact that all add-ons are from legal/free/open source programs and not pirate versions says a lot about his intentions.
If there were not these add-ons for my 320L I doubt that I would buy it.
The next thing I need to do is make a donation to vtverdohleb  ;)

Regarding the FW 1.07b4 in the EU site, do we have any news about it?

Thank you very much for your kind words! I will try to justify the confidence! ;) D-Link NAS is not worse than similar models QNAP, Synology, etc. But the lack of software results in a gain in the price of a complete zero ... For this reason I started creating add-ons.

Yes, much love for VTVERDOHLEB for building and hosting add-ons for the DNS-320L.

Just wanted to also chime in on this update, I've been wanting to run addons like OwnCloud and the like on the DNS-320L and it looks like there have been issues in the past with MySQL?  After installing the 1.06b04 update, it looks like it's got a semi-official appstore built in for addons now, I installed PHPMyAdmin and it has MySQL running fine, and I have now been able to install OwnCloud from vtverdohleb without issue!
