Configuring OpenVPN in DSR-500N
« on: August 01, 2014, 09:59:39 AM »

Good afternoon,
Sorry for the english scratched, but I need the help of the forum. I'm trying to configure OpenVPN and I'm facing some problems in the configuration. I ran a manual that the FTP D-LINK's German ftp.dlink.de. Certificates downloaded from the website itself, but would like to know if anyone who has knowledge can send me a detailed information on how to create these certificates for the OpenVPN connection.
Another thing is related to the connection of customers. Starting the connection of two clients simultaneously connecting both clients assign the same IP address conflict and forcing a miss connection of customers. Is there a setting within the DSR-500N to IPS configuration distribution to all customers and is set in a setting made by certificate.

Again I apologize, but the level 2 support in my area does not help much.

I thank those who can help me.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Not much experience with DSR series units so I don't think I'll be of any help. If you have tried your regional D-Link support office, you may or should approach the OpenVPN Mfr for some help and support as well and see if they can help you in the configuration of there application.

Thank you.

1) The hardware version is A1.
2) The firmware version is 1.09B38_WW provided by level 2 support D-Link
3) The region is Brazil.

I have already sent emails to the level 2 D-Link Brazil, but so far received no reply. Thanks anyway. If you have something more to report, or someone has a better experience'll be waiting.

Please don't use captials characters. Did you phone contact OpenVPN?

I would recommend phone contacting your regional D-Link support office, as for level 2 or even higher support this time.

Hi,

as far as I understand the problem, DSR-500N includes no PKI function, hence you have to build your own PKI that generates the certificates needed to import to DSR-500N for OpenVPN.

Open Source OpenVPN provides such PKI function which you could use, see here. I tested this description with Windows 7 installing openvpn-2.2.2-install.exe and could successfully create all needed private keys and certificates for a CA, the server and clients.

One possible pitfall is worth to be mentioned: With Windows 7 x64, when editing file vars.bat, you have to change the line

set HOME=%ProgramFiles%\OpenVPN\easy-rsa

to

set HOME=%ProgramFiles(x86)%\OpenVPN\easy-rsa

And you have to run the windows command shell as administrator, otherwise the scripts you call won't work.
